Extremely Unsafe – Black Mould and No Accountability from Management I stayed one night at Hotel Kilimanjaro in October 2025, and it was one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve ever had. Our first room (401) had a strong musty odour and visible black mould around the air-conditioning vent. The air felt damp and unhealthy to breathe. When we asked to move, we were shown two other rooms (205 and 110) — both smelled of moisture and showed signs of water damage, with more mould visible in one of them. Black mould is a serious health hazard and should never be present in guest rooms. We reported the issue immediately and were told to speak with the manager the next morning concerning a refund. However, the morning receptionist refused to let us contact the manager, saying he could not give out “personal information” — which is understandable — but I left my full name and phone number to be contacted instead. No one ever reached out, and our concerns were completely dismissed. We ended up checking out early for our own safety and had to rebook elsewhere at our own expense. If you value your health, do not stay here until this hotel properly addresses the mould problem and their lack of accountability. No guest should ever be treated this way. Edit: We have still not been reached out to and now r he hotel refused a refund for the 3 nights we booked (only stayed 1 night after seeing the mould), which was ridiculously expensive. After reading more reviews, it’s clear we likely avoided an even worse experience. Highly recommend avoiding this place

Extremely unsafe conditions – visible black mould and no accountability from management. I stayed one night at Hotel Kilimanjaro in October 2025, and it was one of the most shocking hotel experiences I’ve ever had. Upon entering our first room (401), there was an overwhelming musty odour and black mould visibly growing around the air-conditioning vent. The air felt damp and unhealthy to breathe. When we asked to move rooms, we were shown two others (205 and 110) — both had strong damp smells, water damage, and in one case more visible mould near the air duct. This was especially alarming as one of my friends suffers from asthma and another from a chronic cough. Black mould (Stachybotrys chartarum) is known to cause serious respiratory and long-term health problems, and clearly should never be present in guest areas. We informed the staff immediately and were told to speak with the general manager in the morning about a refund. When we returned, the day receptionist was dismissive, claimed the manager was not available, and offered no assistance whatsoever. We have yet to receive a reply from the hotel. We had no choice but to check out early for our own safety and rebook at another property, incurring additional expenses. If you value your health, I strongly urge you to avoid this hotel until they address the severe mould contamination and lack of management accountability. No guest should have to experience this

Clean, beautiful hotel. We had a twin room with a pool view. It was quiet, and the curtains were very dark. The room size was decent, and the bathroom had a bathtub with a shower. The breakfast buffet was fantastic. A variety of hot dishes, meat and sausage dishes, fresh fruit, eggs, cereal, bread, and sweet snacks. There's something for everyone. Soy milk is also available. For parties, it's about a 30-minute walk to Ballermann 6. A great distance for us. Arenal Beach is within walking distance. The pool area is beautifully designed. Highly recommended.
