Hotel Locanda Cairoli

Tldr - they have some decent concierges but this is 100% not a 4 star hotel and is more close to a 2 star bnb type stay. The hotel occupies one floor ( one above the ground level ) of an apartment building which uses buzzer & intercom for access purposes. Pros 1. The hotel is probably in business mainly due to its good location to many interesting areas. 2. They have "some" pretty good concierges who are the only saving grace for this so called hotel. One lady tried her best to help me goto new year events. Another guy was also very helpful and tried to make me feel welcome. 3. Wifi and heating was decent for this outdated "hotel" and they have an ancient elevator inside the building. Cons: 1. The door to the building is LOCKED and you need to ring the buzzer/ intercom by the door to talk to front desk to let you in during evenings, nights etc. You CANNOT easily access the building. The response for this would be that they have 24/7 concierges. But concierges are human. Imagine you are out for an event and the concierge is sleeping and takes 10 mins to open a door and then is angry at you because you kept ringing the buzzer. 2. Not only is the main door to the building locked, the door to the hotel is also usually locked and needs to be opened by concierges some of them who prefer to keep the door to the hotel also locked. All this is making me wonder about how safe the area is if you have to keep everything locked. 3. Also how about trying to find this hotel. There is next to no signage identifying where/ how to access the hotel. If you arrive at evening/ night good luck trying to find this. 4. They don't have modern key cards for rooms as this is a old hotel and they WANT/ Demand you to leave your key with them because if you lose the key it's expensive to replace. They will shout at you if you leave without giving the key to them. 5. The rooms are ancient, tiny, not well cleaned & have next to no noise isolation. You can clearly hear people shouting at the street level. 6. The towels for this hotel were amongst the worst & seem to be from a discount store. They give you a soap the size of your thumb & a travel size all in one body wash, shampoo& conditioner. This alone should qualify it not to be 4 star. 7. Not all concierges were good. Who tells a paying guest that if they ring the buzzer again like this, I will not let you in the building. Some of them also lied to me stating that they need the key for fire safety. They clearly have backup keys for cleaning the room. 8. Communication was also clearly lacking as none of this was told to me on arrival and I had to figure all this out over the period of my stay. 9. There was also a tram running close by but as my room was not facing that direction I did not hear much tram noise. 10. This had the tiniest shower I have used in my life and water pressure and water temperature were not consistent all the time. I wonder if the building ran out of hot water during my shower that day. 11. The bed was hard and not very comfortable to sleep on.

It's very, very well located... you can walk all over Rome... and it's also perfect for visiting Trastevere... It was a very good decision... I recommend it 100%.
