A stay at the Martinez in Cannes on the night of February 14th, and without a doubt, it will be the last time. From the moment we checked in, the tone was set: a cold, distant, almost condescending welcome. No one escorted us to our room, nor did anyone check that it matched our reservation—a basic courtesy in an establishment of this caliber. I had booked and paid for a sea view room, not just a partial one. However, the first room assigned to us opened onto a large terrace with only a VERY partial view of the sea. Calling this a “sea view” is a particularly generous interpretation of reality. At this price, one doesn't expect to discover that the difference between what is advertised and what is actually provided is left to the hotel's discretion... After nearly an hour of back and forth, we finally obtained a room change. The second room did offer a genuine sea view, but it proved just as disappointing in the most important aspect: comfort. The insulation around the French doors was inadequate, letting in wind and noise as if they were open, as evidenced by video footage. Added to this were recurring creaking and noises, seemingly coming from the false ceiling or the ventilation system, occurring approximately every thirty seconds. In other words, a room where sleeping was more about performance than rest. The problem had been reported. Maintenance was indeed carried out during our absence. However, we received no feedback on the follow-up and, most importantly, nothing had been resolved. We therefore left the room at 2:00 a.m. to return home. It is rather peculiar to find that we found a level of comfort at home that surpassed that of an establishment supposedly embodying hotel excellence. Another particularly regrettable point: the smoked salmon ordered via room service was extremely disappointing, not to say disgusting. Again, this falls far short of the standard one has the right to expect from an establishment of this category. Finally, when we wanted to access the spa, the staff member informed us that it wasn't possible without a massage reservation, claiming it was too crowded. This, too, is perplexing. In an establishment of this category, one would reasonably expect guests to at least have access to the sauna and hammam, even without a treatment. Ultimately, between a "sea view" that wasn't one, a second room that was practically unusable, nonexistent follow-up, and service that fell far short of its claimed positioning, the experience never once lived up to its advertised reputation.
