Hotel Nest

We landed after everything was closed and booked up Jensel was very professional and made us feel right at home by far one of the best hotels ive stayed at in San Juan

We enjoyed our stay here! There is parking (in the back, you may need to ask the front desk for instructions). There's also available parking on the sides of the streets for free. There is free breakfast (some pastries, coffee, etc.). The room is nice overall and it was a comfortable stay. The A/C worked well. While the bed wasn't too soft, we did sleep well. The area is a little sketchy, but overall not too bad. It's about a 10 or so minute drive to downtown San Juan. And you can walk to various restaurants around the nearby area.

Online it seemed like a nice quaint hotel, and it was very close to my aunt's home, so my sister and I booked a room. Those were the pluses. Here are the challenges: 1) There are no elevators, so you need a strong back. 2) The room smelled musty and mildewy. Probably because they turn the A/C off when the room is not rented. 3) When we checked in, the window blind did not work and the attendant came to lower it. My sister noted two cucarachas on her bed. The attendant gathered one in the sheets, but the other one made the great escape. I caught it heading towards my bed in the morning and sent it to the hereafter. On the upside, we weren't charged for the two extra guests. 4) They note that the original building tile was left for historic reasons. That's fine, but they could have cleaned them and polished them. I could not have cost too much, for many were missing. 5) I constantly fought to get a hot shower. They claimed that they use a solar heater for the water and there was not enough sun (there was). The solar panel must be 1 square inch, backed by a gerbil on an exercise wheel. There was hot water in the mornings, apparently because they turn the electric booster on. However, we shower in the afternoons. When I requested that they turn it on, the clerk would argue and talk in circles. He refused to call the manager or the owner. Grudgingly, he eventually would turn it on. In summary, the Nest Hotel is one step up from the Bates Motel, but at least Norman Bates always provided his guests a hot shower.
