Hotel Retlaw, Trademark Collection by Wyndham

We had our daughters reception there New Year Eve. It was very elegant and nostalgic. The staff were very kind and considerate. I would highly recommend hosting an event there. The location was great.

Mixed emotions. The hotel itself is beautiful, the rooms were clean and comfortable, and the cocktails (when we finally got them) were genuinely great. You can tell the property is intended to feel first-class — but the experience was held back almost entirely by the staff and overall service. From the moment we arrived, nobody seemed like they wanted to be there. It felt like the team knew how they were supposed to treat guests, but the execution was consistently poor and unwelcoming. We were even told the bar manager recently left (the one known for an extensive recipe list), and after our visit, it’s hard not to assume they’re dealing with staffing and/or management issues. At the bar, our bartender tried, but was subpar in basic guest interaction. We briefly talked through drink options and he told me he didn’t want to make the first three drinks I asked for. I eventually asked something like, “What’s the best drink you are willing to make?” He paused, then silently grabbed a drink menu and handed it to me without a word. To be fair, after that awkward start, he did end up making a few fantastic cocktails for our group of four. Later in the evening (around 9–10pm), we headed back up to our rooms and I watched guests waiting at the front desk with no one present. At one point I heard someone say, “Hello… does anyone work here?” after standing there for quite a while. Overall: great building, nice rooms, and strong potential — but the service and staffing issues are impossible to ignore. If ownership sees this, it needs attention ASAP because it’s undermining what could otherwise be a top-tier experience.

The Hotel Retlaw is absolutely stunning and our go to every time we are in the Fond Du Lac area — from the moment you walk in, you feel like you’re somewhere truly special. The décor is elegant, warm, and full of character, and every space is beautifully kept. The rooms are truly one of a kind — beautifully designed, comfortable, and full of charm. I also loved the added touch of having robes in the room. The only small note is that they could use a little fabric softener to make them a bit less scratchy 😊— but we still appreciated having them! A very special thank-you to Rebecca, who took such wonderful care of us during our stay. She went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect and made our visit feel extra special in ways we truly appreciated. We are so grateful for her kindness and hospitality. Hands down, the best hotel in Fond du Lac. We can’t wait to come back!
