I can't help but agree with the previous bad rating. We have had a similar experience with this hotel where we are a group, where 2 individuals in our group have become seriously ill with extreme stomach pain, fever and stomach flu due to poorly handled food. What mainly affects this bad review is the incredibly poor treatment from both the reception staff and the hotel management. To take an example of this poor treatment, the question was asked to the hotel staff about the possibility of getting hand sanitizer to avoid the disease spreading further. At the same time, it was also mentioned that we can buy hand sanitizer if it is a money issue, where the answer from the hotel staff was something like: "that's not how it works here darling" and "if you want hand sanitizer, then take a cab to the city and buy one". Which shows a poor attitude from the hotel staff. It should also be added that hand sanitizer is available for guests at the reception but is impossible to get/buy from the hotel staff. On several occasions we have come to empty hand sanitizer dispensers at the restaurant, and despite asking the staff to refill them, it has taken them several days to do so. This, combined with poor management of the hotel's all-inclusive buffet, means we will never return to this hotel, not even if we get a paid trip.

Serious hygiene issues and illness – disappointing hotel experience Cape Verde itself is a wonderful destination with a great climate, beautiful surroundings and a relaxed atmosphere. Unfortunately, our experience at this particular hotel fell far short of expectations due to serious hygiene and management issues. During our stay, both my partner and i came down with gastrointestinal symptoms, including severe stomach pain, fever and vomiting/diarrhoea. In our case, one guest was bedridden for four days and unable to use the hotel facilities at all, resulting in a significant loss of the holiday experience. What makes this situation particularly concerning is the hotel’s apparent lack of basic infection-control measures. Hand sanitiser stations were present in reception and restaurant areas but were repeatedly empty. Despite this, the all-inclusive buffet continued to operate as normal, with no additional hygiene measures observed, even as guests were clearly becoming ill. The combination of guests falling sick, unattended and empty sanitiser stations, continued buffet service and an indifferent response from staff and management reflects a serious lack of responsibility. We felt neither supported nor taken seriously during an illness that clearly affected more than one guest. We would happily return to Cape Verde, but we would not consider staying at this hotel again under any circumstances. Future guests should be aware of the risks, particularly regarding hygiene standards.

Fantastic hotel 😊 An adults-only hotel. Excellent food and drink. The hotel is clean, spacious, and beautifully designed in an African style. Spacious pools with loungers in the water. The beach is sometimes volcanic sand, sometimes golden sand. Sunbeds are plentiful both on the beach and by the pools. The hotel staff is very friendly, helpful, and smiling. The hotel is located about 10 minutes from the airport, which is a huge plus. Plus, you can't hear any planes landing or taking off. The RIU brand is excellent when it comes to Riu Karamboa. I recommend it, I recommend it, I recommend it. It's worth a visit 😊
