When booking the Saalbacher Hof we were slightly wary about staying in such a large hotel in the centre of town (we mostly stay in small hotels on the periphery of ski resorts); we really shouldn't have worried. Though large, the hotel has a very warm and welcoming atmosphere and all the staff are personable and engaging. They are all very helpful. The hotel is very well equipped and maintained and the ski room is immense. The location is perfect and very close to all the main lifts. The quality of food and wine was very impressive - always interesting things to eat on the varying menus (and even the packed breakfast we were given because of our early return departure time was the best and most lavish we've ever had). We were fortunate to have a Junior Suite, which was spacious and very comfortable; it was also very quiet as it was high up and at the back of the block it was in. However, the best part of our stay was our waiter, Vlad, who was attentive, informative, and unfailingly helpful and entertaining. The quality of the food made every meal good, and Vlad made them fun. It was a real pleasure to meet him.

Great location, really clean throughout, superb spa area and helpful reception staff. This should be 5 stars all the way BUT….. We booked a Tower Suite Deluxe - big mistake. These are situated to the front of the hotel where the night club is located in the basement. The ‘music’ or rather techno garage bass reverberates straight through whereby the room is psychically jolted, couple that with the noise= no sleep. We accept/expect a certain level of noise and the usual 2-3am finish was almost tolerable but the 5.15am finish completely unacceptable. Benefits few but impacts many. Such a contradiction by the hotel that promotes ‘wellbeing’ as a principal feature. Evening meal (restaurant ) is served between 7pm and 9pm with a caveat that after 9 you might not get all courses but certainly 3 courses. We turned up at 9.15pm and were told we could eat cheese from an extremely depleted cheese board. This left us wandering around the town trying to find a restaurant available after 9pm. Both issues raised with the hotel at the time with no reconciliation from them, to the contrary certain staff made us feel somewhat uncomfortable for raising the restaurant issue. If you are going to this hotel choose your rooms wisely and consider just bed and breakfast as there are great restaurants nearby.

We left with very high expectations, but unfortunately, they weren't met. For a rather steep price during an (admittedly) very busy period, I really expected more. Breakfast and the room were good. The location is very central (although it's always a bit of a walk to one of the three lifts, not to mention the stairs from the ski cellar to the street). However, we had a room at the front. Unfortunately, the soundproofing in the room is non-existent. So, we could "enjoy" the hotel disco starting at 9 pm, the partying, screaming, and shouting passersby all night long, only to be woken from 6 am by deliveries, bells, snow plows, and so on. In short: we didn't sleep and returned home anything but rested. The wellness area is nice and well-maintained, but there's hardly any enforcement to ensure compliance with the rules (quiet, no textiles, no smartphones, so no photos, etc.). I reported this several times, of course, and there was a response, but I still experienced two very shocking incidents that still make me uncomfortable. We booked half board. Dinner was a 5-course menu, which changed each evening. They tried to offer a very "haute cuisine" experience, but in my opinion, they didn't achieve it. I would have been much happier after a day of exercising with solid, high-quality regional dishes, which weren't always fancy (but were actually, in my opinion, not very tasty).
