Hotel Select Inn Yonezawa

When I called a staff member to the front desk to leave my keys, one male staff member told me to just leave them there, and glared at me. This is awful from both a security and customer service perspective. I think it's best to always receive the keys by hand. I found it extremely unpleasant and rude. It's a real shame, as the other male and female staff members were very polite.

The front desk staff are friendly and polite, but it might be a hit or miss!

I stayed here on the first day of a three-day weekend in November. I arrived about 30 minutes earlier than planned, at 2:30 PM, so I asked the front desk if I could just park my car. They said, "Your room has just finished cleaning, so you can check in if you like." I was grateful, but even more so, as other reviews have mentioned, I was surprised by the staff's politeness. Their gentle manner and polite service made me feel at ease (lol). I know this sounds harsh, but I chose this hotel because it was good value for money and I didn't care where I stayed three weeks before the three-day weekend, and I was impressed with the staff. I'd heard that parking was on a first-come, first-served basis, and since it was early, the parking lot was empty, so I parked in the lot next to the hotel. My room was a non-smoking twin. My impression when I checked in...the room was spacious. My companion also gave it a rave review, saying, "The room is spacious and clean." The furnishings have a historic feel, but they're well-maintained and there's no cigarette smell, so it was fine. There's also an air purifier with a humidifier. However, I was told that the main light in the room wouldn't turn on, and I didn't know what to do, so I called the front desk. They said, "There's an orange stick on the key, so please insert it into the orange socket on the left side of the room entrance. Sorry if it's confusing." I thought, "I see," and inserted it. It occurred to me that this is what you need instead of inserting a card key. Looking closely, there was a sign posted next to the elevator on the first floor. It was my fault for overlooking it. The Wi-Fi worked without any issues. There were no electrical outlets next to the pillows, but we were using mobile batteries, so it wasn't a problem. However, the bathroom and toilet were small, like a unit bath. Other reviews have mentioned this, and it's true. But I chose this hotel because it was just a place to stay and good value for money, so I wondered if it was really that important. My apologies to anyone else who didn't. The hot water is adjusted by turning on both the cold and hot water valves, but it's really hot! (lol) At night, since the hotel is located in a busy area, you can hear some outside noise, but it's not too noticeable. It just feels like there are a lot of energetic young people around. It's conveniently located near convenience stores, restaurants, and drugstores. We did have a slight problem in the morning. My companion set the air conditioner to 30°C, but the room still wouldn't heat up. It might be a little cold, but my companion is sensitive to the cold, so he brought a blanket from the car, but it still seemed cold. I'm generally sensitive to heat, so it wasn't a problem, but if you're sensitive to the cold, you might want to take precautions. When I went out to smoke a cigarette in the morning, my car was frozen solid. It's far from the station, so it's a bit inconvenient for people who have business around the station, but it was a great value for the money. I didn't check the cost of the taxi from the station, so I'm not sure, but it was close enough that I could have paid 1,000 yen (in the evening) and asked them to buy me a drink with the change. There was a microwave at the front desk, which was convenient for heating up things I had bought. I came back from eating and drinking and went out 4 or 5 times to go to the drugstore, convenience store, and smoking area, and there was always a staff member standing at the front desk, bowing every time I passed. They were standing there so much that I wondered if they were taking a break, and I was impressed by their polite service. I would like to use this hotel again when I come to Yonezawa. I was very satisfied with this hotel. Thank you very much.
