Hotel Shohjahon Palace

We stayed here from September 17th to 20th, 2025. We were lured in by the good reviews, location, beautiful photos, and the spa. The location is good, close to the Registan, but walking through the private sector after dark is extremely unpleasant and dangerous. There are no sidewalks in some places. We stayed in three different rooms for three nights. The first night, we stayed on the top floor in the very last room in a separate building. It had a country house feel. At night, there was a draft coming from the front door, full of cracks. The balcony overlooked a small street, and the door wouldn't close. The bed was very hard, made up of two beds. The cleanliness of the bed linen is questionable; there were stains. The bathroom was heavily rusted and the equipment was outdated in places. We were upgraded to a suite in the main building, upon request, with two rooms. The air conditioning was so loud it was impossible to sleep, and it was stuffy without it. You'd open the window (it overlooks the courtyard, called "garden" on Booking.com), and there were men talking loudly at night between 2 and 3 a.m. Most importantly, on our second night at this hotel, the hot water was turned off! We came back after a long walk around the city and couldn't shower. There was a young guy at reception, it was his second or third shift. I called the manager and asked what to do. He said you could shower in another room for FREE! I was shocked. The shower in that room was broken; it wouldn't turn on. On the third night, the hot water wasn't fixed, so we were moved to a room of a lower category than we paid for (the cheapest one there and very small), and they only refunded the difference after I asked. Plus, we couldn't use the spa because there was no hot water, and no one reimbursed us for that. I read reviews of other hotels; apparently, water outages are common in the city, but why didn't such a large and expensive hotel take care of this? Didn't they install a boiler? The breakfast was more or less decent, with porridge, cottage cheese, and so on. But the dining room is in the basement. By the way, there's no security either! Incidentally, the building is separate and free to enter, so anyone can come in. The admin is in a separate building. They ruined my mood so much back then that I still remember it. If you risk staying here, I recommend booking through Booking.com! That way, at least you'll have some protection. They offered to pay them in person, at the price we offered on Booking.com. That was a mistake.

The room was chilly, so I had to turn the air conditioning on high.
