Hotel Sun Abashiri

The location and service were excellent. (^^) However, even though the room was nice, there was a strong smell. I opened the windows all the way (even though it was winter), but the smell just didn't go away. I wonder what it was...^^;

Despite the low price, even better service, and reasonable rooms, the low ratings may be due to expectations associated with being in a tourist area. The rooms are just like a typical old business hotel. But then I realized the low ratings were due to old reviews from before the renovation, when all rooms were smoking-only and the hotel didn't have air conditioning. It probably depends on the time, but the gentleman at the front desk helped to ease any concerns I might have had about booking a really cheap hotel. He was incredibly gentle. He offered free coffee and laundry, which was a blessing. The elevator is narrow and sinks a little when it moves, which is a bit scary, but it meets inspection standards. I stayed here in the middle of summer, and with the windows open, I didn't need the air conditioner at night. In the morning, the train whistles acted as a perfect alarm clock. I love trains, so I intentionally left the window open, but with the window closed, the noise wasn't an issue. The best part of staying here is the crab-and-rice bento (ekiben) from Moriya Shoten, which I buy right after opening in the morning! It's right in front of the station, so I can go right after waking up. I thought I'd choose a pre-made item to buy, but there wasn't anything on display. I pressed the bell to order from the waiter, and was surprised when he said, "We'll make it now." And then, freshly made warm crab rice was served. It was so delicious. The value for money alone is 5 stars, but if you go to Moriya Shoten to buy breakfast, it's 6 stars. However, I think families or inexperienced couples would be safer staying at a Dormy Inn or similar. I imagine it as the perfect accommodation for bikers. I stayed here the first night to save money as I was staying at a resort hotel the next day, but the value for money was so good that I would definitely stay here again.

The male manager at the front desk? I think. He was very kind and friendly, and I had a very comfortable night. The washing machine was free to use, which is a nice service for travelers. There were also free drinks in the lounge waiting area. They were coffee and tea packets, like those found in manga cafes that only serve hot drinks. There was ice in the laundry room, so you can chill your drinks in the summer, which is convenient. If I have the opportunity to come to Abashiri again, I'll definitely stay here. Thank you.
