Hotel Talisman

I spent a week at Hotel Talisman in the off-season during Carnival week, and it was an excellent experience from start to finish. The location in the heart of Ponta Delgada is hard to beat. The hotel sits within a pedestrian-friendly zone, which makes walking around town easy and enjoyable without worrying about heavy traffic. The marina, restaurants, shops, and historic streets are all just steps away. Even during Carnival week, the area felt lively without being overwhelming, and staying downtown made it easy to enjoy the festivities while still having a quiet place to relax. Within a one-block radius, you’ll find some of the best restaurants in town — including excellent steak options, Italian, Asian cuisine, and the hotel’s own restaurant. There are also souvenir shops with gifts and sundry items you might need, a full grocery store just a block away, and even an ice cream shop a couple of blocks toward the waterfront. The local farmers market is only a few minutes’ walk as well, making it incredibly convenient to experience local flavors and culture without needing transportation. The hotel itself has a classic charm that fits perfectly with the Azores. It’s not ultra-modern — and that’s actually a benefit. The style of the rooms and the overall property blends seamlessly with the historic downtown pedestrian area. Rather than feeling out of place, the hotel complements the architecture and character of the city. Everything is well maintained, clean, and comfortable. My room was spotless and had everything I needed for a week-long stay. Housekeeping was exceptional — I honestly should have stayed an extra day just to learn how they make a bed so tight and neat every single day. The staff truly stood out throughout the entire stay. The front desk team was available day and night, extremely friendly, and genuinely helpful to all guests. They were accommodating with every request I had and always willing to offer assistance, recommendations, or guidance. Breakfast each morning became a highlight of my day. The excellent staff, combined with fresh food and a spotless, well-organized dining area, made for a very relaxing and easy way to start the day. They never seemed to run out of anything, and everything was consistently fresh and well presented. In addition to the main restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner, the hotel also has a small, well-stocked bar on the first floor — perfect for a quiet drink — as well as a pub offering food and drinks in a more casual setting. Having these options onsite adds to the convenience, especially after a long day of exploring. There is also a travel agency and a rental car agency located within the building, which makes booking tours or arranging transportation incredibly easy and convenient. The rooftop terrace and pool area are another highlight — a peaceful spot to unwind after walking around town. Even in the off-season, it was a great place to relax and take in the surroundings. Overall, spending a full week here gave me a real sense of the hotel, and it consistently delivered on comfort, value, service, and location. I would absolutely stay at Hotel Talisman again on my next trip to the Azores.

We stayed at this hotel for around a week. Staff/ Service: The staff at the reception was always kind and helpful, though it has to be mentioned that some staff are more 'useful' than others when asking for advice. While some staff members might just hand you the phone number of the local taxi service, others help you to manage and organize the whole trip. Thank you again for your awesome service! Housekeeping was doing a good job most of the time, when you asked to clean the rooms at a later time it was no issue either. One time, the towels weren't exchanged even when requested but this might have been just an honest mistake. Rooms: We sadly had an old room, which was also not the cleanest, but overall it was okay. The main issue was, that the whole room was very damp. When lying on the pretty small bed, the whole bedsheets etc. were damp. We had to use the AC. Food: This has to be the biggest let-down. We didn't expect too much from a small Hotel on a very small island but since it was supposed to be a 4Star Hotel, we did have expect at least some sort of rotation when it comes to food. But in a week we basically had the same dish 4 times (and another time as a pork variation). No variation and then the "steaks" were like a shoesole. Oftentimes you would find the leftovers simply reused for the next days dishes (fish today, same fish in lasagna tomorrow). Breakfast variation would mean: Sometimes you find the baked beans here, sometimes in a bigger bowl. The Bacon was pretty nice but as someone who eats bacon maybe once every 2 years, having it for a full week straight is just not that good. Restaurant staff was nice again but please, some varation!
