Let me start with the positive things first. The hotel is clean and is located in a quiet area (it felt almost rural). The rooms are spacious, and you are a 4-minute walking distance from the tram station that can take you to the center. Now on the other side, the receptionist who checked me in (Monica — or at least that’s what she told me her name is; she’s the blonde receptionist) wasn’t welcoming. The first thing she told me when I arrived was that check-in is at 2 PM (I arrived around 10 AM). I then asked if early check-in was possible, and she said I would have to pay €10 for each 2 hours, which was fine with me, but she added that she only takes cash, which I found a bit sketchy. The room had no safe box, was overly warm, and had no sound isolation. I could hear footsteps, banging, and loud conversations in the morning, which could have been an issue if I wasn’t going to bed early every day. The night before my checkout (the last night), I asked about the possibility of a late checkout. The receptionist on the night shift said it was possible until 1 PM, but no later, as the room was reserved. On the day of my checkout, at 12:04 PM, I received a call from Monica asking me to check out. When I told her that her colleague had given me permission the night before to check out at 1 PM, she denied it, said it would cost €10, and then hung up the phone. Given that I thought I had until 1 PM, I had to rush to take a shower and pack my bag. As I stepped out of the shower, half naked, the room door was opened and the cleaning lady was about to walk in, repeatedly saying “check out.” I asked her to give me 5 minutes, got dressed, and went to the reception to complete my checkout. This is a perfect example of how unprofessional staff can ruin a customer’s experience and, in turn, lead to a bad review and eventually a bad reputation. Hospitality is all about the service, and any hotel should hold their staff responsible for providing the best possible experience.
