⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3-Star Review – Hyatt Regency Monterey I stayed at Hyatt Regency Monterey for approximately two weeks, and my experience was mixed. There were positives, but also several areas that need serious improvement. Food & Dining The eat-all-you-can buffet fell short of expectations. The food quality and variety were limited, and I would have appreciated healthier options such as fresh vegetables and lighter meals. For a hotel of this caliber, the buffet should feel more thoughtful and well-curated. Restaurant Service While some staff members were polite and professional, there were moments that felt rushed and uncomfortable. On one occasion, the bill was presented while I was in the restroom, and tables were often cleared quickly, making meals feel hurried. Dining should feel relaxed and welcoming—not pressured. In-Room Technology The in-room TV and Google Cast system did not function smoothly. Connecting mobile devices was frustrating and unreliable. In comparison, Navy Lodge Monterey offers a much more user-friendly setup. That said, I do appreciate that the hotel was kind enough to allow me to watch new movie releases and charge them to the room—this gesture was thoughtful and appreciated. Gym, Sauna & Facilities The bathroom facilities for the gym and sauna closed at 9:00 PM, even though the pool remained open until 10:00 PM and guests were still using the gym. Extended bathroom hours would greatly improve comfort and hygiene for guests. Staffing & Employee Support It appeared there was a staffing shortage, which affected service speed and put visible pressure on employees. I also became aware of concerns from staff who felt unheard. I have personal ties to this property—my uncles were long-time employees—and I believe employee retention and listening to staff feedback are critical to maintaining Hyatt’s standards. Personal Health Experience While on our way back from San Francisco and during my stay, I experienced persistent coughing and gum bleeding and was not feeling well physically. The gum bleeding was something I personally believe was related to exposure to toxic air fumes prior to arriving, which affected my respiratory health. This made it difficult to fully enjoy certain amenities, including the pool area. I shared my experience through personal blogging at the time, and it was disappointing to feel that these health concerns were misunderstood or misattributed to my uncle, a long-time employee, who was nearly penalized instead of the situation being addressed with care, empathy, and proper consideration. Additional Amenities For guests on extended stays, I strongly recommend adding self-service laundry facilities with mobile app payment. This works extremely well at Navy Lodge Monterey and would be a valuable convenience for families, business travelers, and long-term guests. Overall Hyatt Regency Monterey has potential and a strong brand reputation, but the experience did not consistently match expectations. With improvements in food quality, staffing support, technology upgrades, and guest comfort, this property could deliver a much better stay. I hope this feedback is taken constructively, as it is shared in good faith.

The room was spacious and the beds were fine too, quite comfortable. But the bathroom was dirty when we arrived. There was hair everywhere including on the shower walls which was disgusting. And you can hear everything from the rooms beside and above :(

We stayed multiple nights between Christmas and new years and the specific room we needed was overbooked. Jezzel was fabulous at handling the situation and figured out another room for my family. Loved the Hyatt teams customer obsession. I’ve seen things go south after an initial experience such as this but the team ensured we were taken care of rest of the trip including finding the right room for us rest of the stay. Loved the resort, the pool and smores at night. Breakfast had lines - possibly due to it being holidays season, but the restaurant serves up delicious breakfast and dinner.
