Hyatt Zilara Riviera Maya

Had an absolutely awesome stay at Hyatt Zilara Riviera Maya! The resort is gorgeous and well maintained, and the beds & pillows are super comfortable. The staff is incredibly attentive and are great with allergies too, I have a gluten and dairy allergy and felt very safe and had plenty of options. I did not expect there to be so many activities but they were all wonderful! A special thanks to Alexander at poolside servicec Alexander at the lobby bar, Agustín at the tequila tasting, and of course Fermín at all the activities!!! I can not speak highly enough about their hospitality, we felt right at home. 10/10!

We had a great time, good room and service. Beautiful grounds and an amazing beach. The pool was a bit cold, but hot tub helped. The food was a bit lackluster, otherwise would have been perfect.

Amenities Let's start with "all inclusive" part. It isn't. A lot of lounge chairs by the small pool had "club" signs on it and weren't available to all. The nice beach and pool side cabana beds were to pay for on top of all inclusive and you are expected to drink and tip constantly. The problem is, there were not enough lounge chairs for all present. You had to go early in the morning to "reserve" your lounge chair with a towel. Really? Yes, food and drinks are included. However, by far, food was the worst of all all=inclusive resorts I have been to (about 3 dozen over the years). The buffet is animaginative, poor quality and small selection. Most food is overcooded and not much taste. The hibachi restaurant has to be booked so far in advance that we didn't make it. Lola cafe by the pool is ok, but not the quality I would expect. And the portions are very small. Serving times are very very long. Same goes for Italian restaurant and Asian that didn't need reservations. Great pretensions but poor delivery. If you don't want your room cleaned for any reason, you will get endless calls asking why. Repeated calls. They keep calling with different offers for this and that, constantly. Great push is made to sell you something additional. Everywhere and every time. Keep in mind, the resort is very small. No place to take a walk. At all. Beach has a lot of seaweed but that is not their fault and it is being cleaned often. Rooms are nice and clean but there is a lot of construction going on on the north side. That wouldn't be a problem actually, if you keep your balcony door closed, if you weren't being lied to at the very start. We were specifically told that construction is "9 to 5". That is not true. It is at least 7am to 7pm. The resort itself is oddly constructed. The lobby level has no access to any rooms. You first have to go around the building on either side to get to the elevators to your floor. That wouldn't make any difference except buffet is on the same level. If you want to go from beach/pool to buffet, you have to climb the stairs. Good for those who can, but if you can't, go walk around searching for alternative. None are conveniently located. Wonder what they do when it rains. Must be very slippery there, Rooms: regular rooms don't provide slippers or robes. One thing that was very scary to me, is the shower floor that was from the same large tiles everywhere. Smooth and shiny. In a very nice large shower, great chance to slip and fall. They do provide one minuscule rubber mat, we had to ask for more. And use one towel on the floor of the bath to make it safer. No trash can in the bathroom either. Everywhere you go, you are asked room number. Wonder why considering this is all inclusive. Lot' of wedding parties. The swim out rooms must be nice but we didn't pay extra for that either. 2 very good things of note. Service was good though slow at times. Coffee shop. Never saw that anywhere else and wish they were everywhere. Terrific coffees, great ice cream, great chocolate deserts. Outstanding. Made up for a lot of shortcomings. Value for the money? Wash't worth it to me in the end. Too expensive for too little.
