I stayed at the ibis Hotel in Bridgwater from Thursday into Friday. I arrived around 2:45pm and was able to check in straight away as my room was already available which was a good start. The downstairs area is very clean with plenty of seating to relax in and there is a nice bar too. You do have to pay for parking with the first 30 minutes free but I didn’t mind the £6 overnight charge at first. What really let the stay down was the parking situation. After paying for parking I left for dinner for a couple of hours and when I returned the entire car park was completely full, every space taken, cars parked on double yellow lines and even the drop off area was full. I had no choice but to mount a curb and hope my car would be okay overnight. It is pretty ironic to pay for parking and not actually have a space. The staff were friendly enough but the uniforms are just basic red tops with logos which makes the overall look feel a bit inconsistent. The room itself was an okay size and the bed was very comfortable. The basics were provided including fresh towels, a hairdryer, a kettle and tea and coffee items. There was no fridge which was annoying as I had bought milk for my tea. The industrial style décor didn’t quite work for me and it looked more like the walls had been plastered and never finished. A nice touch was the complimentary can of water, cookie and a personalised note from the team with direct contact details for a staff member if there were any issues. That felt welcoming. There is also an option to scan and pay for food to be delivered to your room which was convenient. There was no dressing table or proper place to do hair and makeup and instead of bedside cabinets they used little stools which felt a bit cheap. There were plenty of plug sockets which was handy. The heating worked but the unit made noise during the night. Breakfast was basic with sausage, scrambled egg and beans. It was fine but nothing special. They serve Starbucks coffee at the bar but my latte was poorly made. Overall the hotel was okay for a one night stay but the parking issues and some room design choices were disappointing. With a Premier Inn just a minute down the road I would probably choose to stay there next time.
