Ikaho Onsen Sanyo Hotel

To be honest, it was a bit disappointing. I stayed for one night, but there was no toilet in the guest room. The walls between the men's and women's shared bathrooms were thin, so you could hear everything. Meals weren't served after you sat down, but were left out long before guests sat down, so the fish and other dishes were cold and hard and not very tasty. The hot springs were pretty good, but I was surprised to see a huge cockroach walking around in the indoor bath, and the sauna is still closed due to COVID-19 precautions. Overall, the hotel was old and not very clean, so if you don't like that, I recommend staying at a nicer hotel even if it's a little more expensive. I won't be staying again.

[Overall Review] I visited by motorcycle and booked a room with breakfast and dinner included. The value for money wasn't bad, but I wouldn't say it was great either. It was truly exquisite. [Facilities] The property is generally showing signs of aging, but it seems to be being well-maintained. I booked a room in the East Wing, but the floor creaked every time I walked, and the walls were thin, so the traffic noise outside was quite loud. The air conditioning worked very well and was comfortable, but the downside is that it was quite loud. The bathroom was exactly as pictured on the website, and as other reviews have mentioned, the open-air bath was quite visible from the room window, which bothered me. However, the bathroom facilities were a bit slow to fill, which was a bit of an issue, but the cypress tub was nice. Also, while it mentions a jacuzzi, it wasn't working; it might have just been turned off. I was hoping for good spring quality, but compared to Kusatsu and Manza, it somehow lacked impact. Furthermore, despite being a hot spring resort, the fact that the large public bath is closed overnight is a bit of a disappointment. [Service] I didn't notice any particular issues with the front desk service. I was a little embarrassed that they had to watch over me while I parked my motorcycle. I ordered breakfast and dinner, but the portions were a little underwhelming. I might need to upgrade my plan. The non-Japanese waitress was also a bit inattentive, which I found a bit off-putting. I tried the ramen that opens at 8 PM, as other reviews had praised. While it was delicious, I felt the price wasn't worth it. [Location] The location is quite high for a hot spring resort, so walking out can be a challenge. They offer shuttle service, but I didn't need to go out, so I won't rate it. There's a lot of traffic, even at night, and the thin walls mean the noise of cars is noticeable. The hilly location also means you need to be careful when parking your motorcycle.

I stayed here on my first trip to Ikaho in about 10 years. The hot springs were simply amazing. The place was filled with beautiful trees. Both breakfast and dinner were kaiseki. The lighting in the hallway was atmospheric and nice. The parking lot was far away, but shuttle service was provided. The location was close to stone steps. Measures against dryness were necessary. Room 405 did not have a bath. Cold air came in near the window. The futon mattresses could be layered to create a thicker mattress. Several hotels around it have gone out of business, and this one is showing signs of aging, which is worrying. I hope it continues forever.
