Isla del Pirata Hotel

This is one of our favourites hotels in the World. Honestly. Let me tell you why: It is beautifully located at the edge of Rosario Islands, so it has a nice and clean shore, warm water, plenty of fish and octopuses around, and pelikans and seagulls (not quite, but similar) fishing there daily. Colours of the sea are amazing, and you can easily rent a kayak, boat or snorkeling equipment to discover what's below the surface. The hotel is a small group of bungalows, spread at half of the island. Depending on your accomodation and preference you may be located front to the sea or a bit deeper into land. We wanted waterfront and we loved it a lot! Sea was literally coming up to our bungalow's level in the evening and stayed until morning. With wave clashing into the front walls and spilling sea water droplets on us when seating outside. Despite it a good place to escape, if you prefer to stay connected, we also enjoyed a very good WiFi everywhere in the area, often up to 70 Mbps. The island is totally remote and we had to trust the comments of other visitors who wrote that their cuisine is marvelous. And it is! We especially enjoyed octopuses (they serve it tow ways: garlic&lemon or carmelized onion - we are both and many times). I also like fish and every day, besides octopuses, I ordered catch of the day. Crispy fried, well seasoned and delicious from inside. We had five lunches and four dinners and each of them kept the samebest taste. Juices! We love fruit juices and they serve many kinds. Our most liked were' maracuja, guanabana (? not sure if this is the name, it was my first time drinking it) and lulo. They have many more mostly drbak these three after trying some other, too (mandarine, strawberry). Last, but possibly the most, we felt well treated and and with a lot of attention. What I mean by this: every time we had a tiny request this was like written in stone for the rest of our stay. My wife didn't like the pepper (pimientos) and she never got it in her salad (I did every time). I liked breakfast fried egg with bread to my wife and arepa for me the first day, with my arepa alight more crispy fried - we got it the same again without asking. Alex, the manager. helped us with negotiation of transport to Cartagena and I didn't ask him twice. He got the number one evening, and next morning came to us saying it was all sorted. Moreover, on the last day he called again and made sure the boat was coming, its name and time. He also waited with us personally until we boarded. When we are back in Colombia we will come back here for 100%. And naturally, we recommend coming here. The more you hesitate i.e. how the food will be, is a remote hotel good for a week-long stay, is the seafront bungalow safe from wind, the better will be your stay! These were all our questions and we loved it after all.

Beautiful natural place and wonderful people

The island is stunning and the staff very friendly. The standard rooms are a bit dated but charming. Some work was underway to repair the jetty damaged by the storm, but it didn't detract from the beauty of the place. The food is good if you order the Mojarra (local fish) or the lobsters caught that morning.
