JAZ Lamaya Resort - All Inclusive

We stayed at the Jaz Lamaya Hotel during the holiday season – we spent Christmas Eve there. The weather was very pleasant: sunny and pleasant during the day, but it got cooler in the evenings. The hotel grounds are very well-maintained, with plenty of greenery, and everything is aesthetically pleasing and well-maintained. There are three swimming pools, which is a big plus, but we consider the lack of heated water in the children's pool a drawback, especially in winter. There were several activities for children, which was a plus. We rated the food as okay, and the restaurant was clean and well-organized. Special mention should be made of Mahmoud Hassan, the fantastic chef, and the very friendly and helpful staff – Ali from the restaurant and Mahmoud, the tall waiter from the hotel bar. The sunbed service was very helpful – the gentleman in charge of this area was always helpful and polite. Unfortunately, the rooms leave much to be desired. The bathroom in particular – the swollen walls are a definite drawback and something that urgently needs renovation. The biggest disappointment, however, was the situation with one of the young waiters at the pool bar. He was very pushy – he frequently hassled guests lounging by the pool, offered drinks himself, and openly suggested he could offer "better products than alcohol." He also tried to exchange dollars, expecting something extra, which, in our opinion, was beyond his competence and unprofessional. Fortunately, after about three days, he was transferred to another location. In summary: the hotel has beautiful surroundings, a good atmosphere, and excellent staff, but it definitely needs to improve the standard of the rooms and better manage the service quality of its junior staff.

First, I'd like to mention the hotel's advantages. It's located in a lagoon and is one of six other hotels in the same bay. Tourists can move freely between all the hotels, which significantly expands their walking options. Three piers and two beaches are also available. There's also a fairly large water park, which, when we visited, had no lines, which was a great plus. The hotel grounds are very well maintained, and the gardeners did a great job. The rooms are standard, not the worst we've seen in Egypt. The rooms were regularly cleaned, but the quality leaves much to be desired. The food is a matter of taste; we didn't enjoy it at all. The Red Sea is beautiful, but this area has been overrun by tourists. The reef is almost completely dead. This hotel would definitely be convenient for divers, as there's a diving school and a launching point on site. We were there in mid-October. There were strong winds and rough seas, so two of the three piers were closed, which put an incredible strain on the only one that was open—it was extremely inconvenient. People from six hotels were using one pier at the same time—that's a huge crowd. However, the big plus is that this pier can accommodate visitors even in rough weather. Now, on to the downsides! The first and biggest is the drinking water concept. You can't get regular bottled water at this hotel. Each room has glass bottles that are supposedly filled from some super-purified tap. In reality, the water reeks of chlorine and tastes just like what comes out of a regular tap. Furthermore, it's completely unclear how these bottles are cleaned. In the bars and restaurants, water is also poured from unknown taps. Ultimately, despite the all-inclusive plan, we had to buy water from a local store, as the hotel water was undrinkable. But this is, of course, our subjective opinion. The second downside is the incredibly slippery tiles by the pools. I've never seen so many people fall. It's impossible to understand who decided to install such tiles by the pool. In conclusion, I'd like to say that this hotel is not bad, but be prepared for the price to be out of line with the quality. It's perfect for a family vacation; there's everything you need to keep the kids entertained.
