This place is the reason people say, location location location! It was 10 minutes from Mount Rushmore and so much more. It was off the beaten path but still close to town enough to make you feel like you were off the grid. We saw wild life grazing, an amazing full moon over Mount Rushmore, which by the way you could see partially from the Lodge. The profile of George Washington is visible from the balcony of some rooms. We enjoy any type of upgraded rooms so we paid for the Rushmore view. It was positively breathtaking to wake up in the morning and see the fog lift over that sculpture that I have read and heard so much about. The food was terrific, kitchen staff worked hard to keep up with all we ate, and we ate a lot. It was a full buffet with everything breakfast should have. They also had a specialty coffee barista which was so cool!! The lodge itself was so quiet and peaceful, the grounds were clean and serene. We enjoyed smores by the firepit. The rooms were large and the beds super comfy. The desk staff were kind and their customer service wonderful!! The only negative thing I can say about our stay is that we paid for a balcony room we couldn't enjoy because of the Western Conifer bugs and they were EVERYWHERE!! Might want to inquire about them before you book and pay because we couldn't even be on our balcony because of them. Kudos to the staff though. They actually posted a picture and signage of the bug so we all knew what it was and were well informed. This place was easily in my top 5 stays of my life, just an amazing place to breath and reset your life compass.
