Kamogawa-Kan Inn

I recently stayed at this inn with a large group. The moment we entered, the inn was filled with the lovely aroma of incense, which was lovely, but the stairs were narrow and the elevator was slow, both going up and down, so it took a long time to get in. The room was also small, barely large enough for eight futons. There seemed to be a torn section of the shoji screen, but it was simply patched up with a simple patch made of paper cut into the shape of a flower. Also, compared to the other rooms, only one light worked in the main room, making it dark. When I shook the futon, dust came out, which wasn't very pleasant. For dinner, we had sukiyaki, but the soup was very shallow, only about 1 cm deep. I understand that sukiyaki in Kansai and Kanto is different, but there was no beef tallow or granulated sugar, and despite being simmered, the soup was very thin. Sometimes they would add more during the simmering process, but sometimes they wouldn't add more until it had evaporated and was like grilled meat, which didn't feel very good. Perhaps it was designed for school trips, but there were no amenities in the room, not even a tissue box. All that was provided were two pots of lukewarm tea and enough cups for the number of people in the room. There was black mold on the bath seat in the room, which made me lose interest in using it. I don't think I'll be using this hotel again.

I read some of the cleanliness reviews prior and had none of those issues, we stayed here for 4-5 days and of all the hotels we stayed in, more and less expensive, this was all in all the cleanest. The location is absolutely perfect for seeing kyoto and tons of things to do within walking distance if you just want to explore without itinerary pressure. HEAVILY reccomend the meals. I was a bit ill at the time when we were here and the meals, and kickass shower saved me.

Very friendly welcome and service. All questions were always answered promptly, and everyone tried to help. Unfortunately, there is no laundry service, so you are referred to a nearby CocoNet. The hot bath is very pleasant, and the room and housekeeping staff are very accommodating and always super friendly. However, it must be said that the kettle doesn't always have to be turned on. We didn't need it, so we always unplugged it. Many shopping and dining options are nearby within walking distance, including two maid bars, the Pokemon Center, a vegan izakaya and a restaurant, anime shops, the Yasuka Shrine, and there are good bus and train connections.
