DON’T DO IT!!!! We stayed at Kaniva Midway Motel and would strongly warn others to avoid it. To be fair, check-in was easy. We arrived very late and the key was left in the door with the outside light on, which we appreciated after a long drive. At first glance the room appeared old but quite spacious and clean. I also want to note that I don’t mind a few dead bugs — that’s to be expected in a country motel and wasn’t the issue here. Unfortunately, the problems were far more serious: • The toilet was not secure — the base lifted and moved when you sat on it. • There was a strange substance and visible mould in the freezer. • A long-life milk portion my son used was chunky and curdled. On checking, it was months past its best-before date, and the fridge did not appear to be cold enough. THE MOST CONCERNING ISSUE WAS THE BEDDING. The beds were neatly made, however when we pulled back the sheets to get into bed, all three beds contained human hair and visible dirt. The sheets had clearly not been changed or washed after previous guests. My teenage children were extremely upset and said they couldn’t sleep there. By this Stage it was 1am and I was not up for driving any more. We ended up sleeping on top of the beds with towels underneath us and used our clothes as blankets, as it felt unhygienic to use the linen provided. When I raised these issues with motel staff the next morning, the response was simply: “Oh, sorry about that.” There was no explanation or attempt to address the situation. This experience fell well below basic hygiene standards. While the check-in process was straightforward, the cleanliness issues were unacceptable, and I would not stay here again or recommend it to others.
