Karl August - a Neighborhood Hotel

Great location in Nuremberg and our room had an incredible view. Although not the fault of the hotel or staff, the people in the room next to us were so loud and disruptive that we had to request a different room. The staff was so accommodating they allowed us to sleep in another room for the night but leave our things in our original room so we didn’t have to repack move everything. The restaurant in the hotel was fantastic.

The hotel has a fantastic location, and the parking garage is right next door. Hotel & Rooms The hotel is modern, with a lot of concrete in its design. Our room was adequately sized for our two-night stay. We were welcomed with two bottles of water, two gingerbread cookies, and two vouchers for a coffee at the bakery, which I assume is part of the hotel. The soaps were high quality. The fitness room is well-equipped and perfectly adequate. The spa area is very nice – the pool with its stunning view is absolutely amazing! 🤩 There's also a sauna with plenty of space. In summary – positives: Very polite and attentive staff, a top location, and a lovely bar area. Negatives: I was personally rather disappointed with the breakfast. In my opinion, it's overpriced. On both days, breakfast was served on a single tiered stand that was already filled (see photos). While we were asked if we wanted drinks like juice or egg dishes, I would have preferred a small, classic breakfast buffet. A small kettle with coffee and tea would also have been desirable in the room.

We booked this relatively new hotel (opened in 2021) for two nights as a New Year's Eve getaway. Given the rather high price, we had correspondingly high expectations. The hotel's industrial style with its many exposed concrete elements probably isn't for everyone, but it's certainly something different. The same goes for the various art objects; whether you like them is always subjective, but the blurry photos in the stairwells, for example, didn't appeal to me. The room was quite small but clean and functional. The sliding door to the bathroom took some getting used to, and the TV constantly stuttered, freezing every two to three minutes. We specifically booked the hotel because of its (small) spa area. It must be said that the 14 loungers are very limited for the size of the hotel. Consequently, there's only one sauna and no way to go outside after using it (which is a real shame). The visual highlight is the small indoor swimming pool with its fantastic view over the city. While the wellness area was relatively peaceful on December 30th, it was absolutely packed on December 31st, and by 2:30 pm all the loungers were already taken, so other guests had to settle down around the pool. It was very noisy, partly because children (under 10 years old) were also allowed. The whole area is very slippery when wet, and you really have to be careful; a woman fell right in front of us. We had also booked breakfast for January 1st at the hefty price of €28 per person. The seating area with a view of the Pegnitz River is indeed lovely, but the quality, especially considering the price, didn't impress me. Some of the sausage and cheese were already dried out around the edges, and I didn't find the polenta tasty either – unfortunately, you can't choose what's served on the tiered tray. My tip would perhaps be to have breakfast at Pique Nique; they offer hot drinks, cakes, pastries and sandwiches, and it's cheaper and you'll still get full.
