This hotel is not worthy of a five-star rating — at best, it deserves four stars. Basic amenities are missing. There is no coffee machine, no tea, and no complimentary bottled drinking water in the room. I later learned that other guests were also complaining to their families about the same issue. There isn’t even a full-length mirror, which is a very basic expectation for a five star hotel at this price point. Shockingly, these essentials are not provided in every room. The room description on the IHG website is misleading. I booked a so-called “Premium” room and paid extra, only to be given a tiny less than 200 sqft room where you can barely move around. There was essentially nothing in the room except the bed. The condition was disappointing, and soundproofing was poor — I could clearly hear conversations from the neighboring room. I was told that the hotel was full and overbooked during holiday time. So my booking of "premium" actually means "essential" room. Such a scam. When I raised these issues, I thought management was offering some credit as gestures. Instead, they simply moved my own prepaid deposit from the room charges to food charges, which felt deceptive. There was no apology, and absolutely no accountability. The lack of professionalism was appalling. When I lost an item and requested housekeeping to check, nobody cares enough to follow up. I have to constantly go to the front desk to check the status and the lost item was never found. It took more than half an hour if you want to get an itemized receipt. The experience was so unpleasant that it overshadowed everything we had looked forward to. Overall, this hotel is overpriced, with poor service, substandard room conditions, and misleading marketing. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

My husband and I stayed at this property in January 2026. We were extremely pleased with our room, the hotel services, and all of the staff. Belkis, at the front desk, went above and beyond to be sure we had an enjoyable stay and that all of our expectations were met or exceeded. We had several lovely meals and cocktails at Alera with friendly staff. We spent a couple of days on the beach and the beach/pool attendants were wonderful to ensure we had a safe and enjoyable experience. The beautiful wooden deck, which is the centerpiece of the pool/restaurant area, was one of the highlights of our stay, setting the property apart from others. The room was immaculate and very modern. The housekeeping service was exceptional. We were sad to leave, but so thankful to the staff for making our couple’s getaway an unforgettable experience. Roatan is on the top of our favorite trips to date!
