My first impression even before checking in was that the staff offered great service. They were promptly at the bus stop to drive me to the hotel within 10 minutes of me emailing them, and they greeted me by name at the reception before I'd introduced myself. Snacks were offered personally at my room after checking in, and they came up to the room to guide me to the restaurant when it was time for dinner. It was a more luxurious start than many other ryokans I'd stayed at. The service throughout the stay was at the same level - so sincere and attentive I felt a bit shy at times. The hotel has a wonderful garden that you can explore on the ground floor next to the gate, and the onsen is great, with a lot of space to avoid crowding and the famous kinsen bath. Note that the hotel doesn't offer the ginsen bath to all guests, only to selected rooms - I didn't research into this and ended up walking to the town ginsen bathhouse to give it a try, but that was my fault. If I had to critique, I'd say the lights inside the rooms could afford to be yellower - 2700K instead of 4000K, but that's just a nitpick. Overall, a very good experience, and I'll be glad to visit again!
