L'Auberge des Remparts

I genuinely cannot believe this place calls itself a hotel. From the moment I walked in, it was clear that cleanliness is not even remotely a priority here. The lobby smelled stale, the carpets were visibly stained, and the staff acted like basic hospitality was an inconvenience. But nothing prepared me for the room. When I opened the door, I was hit with an overwhelming, foul odor. The walls, furniture, and even parts of the bedding had what appeared to be smeared poo on them. It wasn’t a small, isolated mess — it looked like the room hadn’t been cleaned at all, or worse, that someone had simply ignored it and hoped no one would notice. The bathroom was in a similar state, with dried smears and grime that made it completely unusable. I immediately went back to the front desk, expecting shock or at least an apology. Instead, I was met with indifference and vague promises that “housekeeping would check it out.” There was no offer of a refund, no alternative room ready, and no sense of urgency about the absolutely unacceptable conditions. This was not just unpleasant — it was unsanitary and completely unprofessional. No guest should ever have to experience something this disgusting. I would strongly advise anyone considering staying here to look elsewhere unless you enjoy gambling with your comfort, health, and basic standards of hygiene.

We booked a double room three times, for two nights each time. Excellent value for money. The rooms are simple but clean and functional, and the breakfasts are perfect. The staff is very friendly. We will be returning to the area soon and will definitely choose this inn again.
