Leonardo Hotel Antwerp The Plaza

Absolutely unacceptable – dangerous and dishonest stay This was without doubt the worst hotel stay I have ever experienced, and certainly not what anyone would expect from a Leonardo hotel. The bathrooms were filthy, with mould throughout, layers of dust, and clear evidence that they had not been properly cleaned. On top of this, all shower floor trays were cracked, making them unhygienic, unsafe, and quite frankly unusable. There was no working heating in the large living room area, rendering the accommodation uncomfortable, unliveable, and completely unacceptable. More seriously, there was a dangerously exposed heating element (fireplace) with absolutely no safety protection. With a baby present, this was extremely alarming — a clear burn hazard and a total failure of basic safety standards. Even worse, the garden sliding door was broken and unstable. It gave way, came out of its frame, and could very easily have caused serious injury or worse. This goes far beyond poor maintenance — it is outright dangerous. No apology was offered; instead, a worker simply suggested that there “should have been a note saying ‘don’t open’”. Finally, we were lied to about the pool table. We were told it was complete and fully working, while staff later admitted they already knew this was not true. While minor compared to the safety risks, it perfectly sums up the overall lack of honesty and care. This property should not be operating in its current condition. Cleanliness, maintenance, safety, and basic honesty were all seriously lacking. I would strongly warn families, particularly those with young children, to stay elsewhere. To make matters worse, no member of staff — from reception to management — was willing to take responsibility or offer a genuine apology. The token offer of a tiny negligible discount on a future stay does absolutely nothing to compensate for what was a devastating experience, especially considering the large amount we spent on this stay

Parking! There are only 8 parking spaces for 50 rooms. According to the arrogant, bearded employee who checked us in, so in other words, the first parking space is 1.1 km away. Just figure it out with our map. This wasn't known in advance. They didn't change it either. So you have to park your car in a parking space in the middle of the night in the rain and walk through a very seedy neighborhood to your hotel. Walking distance: 22 minutes. Not very pleasant. Breakfast is expensive for what it offers. Scrambled eggs are cold; the rest are beans in tomato sauce, and some toppings, small rolls, and gravy.

WE ARRIVED AROUND MIDNIGHT FROM VERY FAR FOR A 3 NIGHTS STAY. HAD BOOKED A FAMILY SUITE FOR A FAMILY OF 5 (2 ADULTS AND 3 KIDS 11 ,9 , 5), SHOULD FIND IN THE ROOM A DOYBLE BED, A DOUBLE SOFA BED AND A SINGLE EXTRA BED (WITH EXTRA CHARGE). ALTHOUGH THE REQUEST FOR THE EXTRA BED WAS CONFIRMED, THEY DIDNT PLACE IT IN THE ROOM. THE BIG SURPRISE WAS THAT THE DOUBLE SOFA BED WAS ABSOLUTELY NOT FOR SLEEP. THERE WAS NO MATRESS, BUT ONLY THE SITTING PART OF THE SOFA OF 6 PIECES. THEY HAD PLACED ONLY LINEN ON IT. ALSO 2 PILLOWS THAT ARE USED FOR DECORATION 50cm x 50 cm, COVERED BY LINEN AND THEY SUPPOSED TO BE THE SLEEPING PILLOWS . OF COURSE NONE OF US COULD SLEEP THERE AS THE HEAD AND THE LEGS WERE IN LOWER POSITION OF THE BODY, IT WAS LIKE SOMEONE SHOULD SLEEP ON WAVES. I ASKED THE RECEPTIONIST TO CALL HIS MANAGER AND ASK HIM/HER TO GIVE US A SOLUTION. THE MANAGER SAID THAT WE COULD USE ONE MORE DOUBLE ROOM BUT WE HAD TO PAY! WE HAD PAID FOR OUR ACCOMMODATION, WE HAD HUGE PROBLEM BECAUSE WE HAD NO BEDS TO SLEEP AND WE SHOULD PAY AGAIN TO USE FOR THE FIRST NIGHT ONE MORE ROOM. ABSOLUTELY UNPROFESSIONAL STAFF. FINALY 5 PEOPLE SLEPT ALL TOGETHER ON THE DOUBLE BED. THE DOUBLE BED HAD ALSO NO NORMAL MATRESS BUT A 3cm HIGH, HARD MATRESS PLACED ON THE BASE OF THE BED. 3cm HIGH!! NEXT MORNING THE RECEPTIONIST SAID THAT THE ISSUE WITH THE SOFA BED IS ''PREFERENCES'' AND THERE IS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. I ASKED HIM TO COME AND TRY THE SOFA BED, HE AND HIS MANAGER BUT OF COURSE THE DIDNT PAY ANY ATTENTION. LATER BOOKINGCOM ARRENGED FOR US ANOTHER APARTMENT OF THE SAME HOTEL, WE MOVED OUR SUITCASES THERE AND LEFT IMMEDIATELY FOR A DAY TRIP. WHAT A BIG SURPRISE WHEN WE CAME BACK LATE AT NIGHT, THERE WAS NO HEATING IN THE APARTMENT WITH 0 DEGREES OUTSIDE!! THE APARTMENT WAS DIRTY EVERYWHERE. PROBABLY THEY DIDNT CLEAN IT BEFORE THEY GAVE IT TO US. THE BIN IN THE BATHROOM WAS FULL OF PAPERS, HAIR AND PILLS...
