Lopesan Baobab Resort

A really well designed and African themed hotel. A lot of thought has gone into this massive Lopesan hotel with large pools, mildly heated and a lazy river too. The rooms and walkways were a bit tired, can do with an update. There were occasional wall paper off the wall. The staff and service was good, also used the Lopesan app to request few room items. I found it odd that the pool towels were only given out between 10am-12 pm from the pool huts, however they were available from the reception. The food and the spread during the breakfast was good, the staff and chef were friendly and accommodating. The entertainment every night was good and as of a varied theme. What I loved the most was how when you walked through the entrance, the greenery and the waterfall transported you to the another world and felt relaxed and happy straight away. The hotel is close to promenade, restaurants, Maspalomas beach, famous dunes and a bus station for buses to Puerto de Mogan and Puerto Rico. Overall we had a good stay and holiday with family was good.

Reviewing this hotel is very difficult for me because I don't want to be unfair. I'll start with the positive aspects and then mention the not-so-nice ones. We had a senior suite and booked with the "Unique" option. This is why I can give it 3 stars instead of 2. With two spacious rooms, a large terrace with two comfortable loungers, a walk-in shower, and a bathtub, you have everything you need. Everything was clean. Fresh water was provided daily. Coffee pods and a machine, as well as a kettle with tea bags, were also available. However: The room and the entire hotel are far too dark and drafty. Finding the stairs in the stairwell is sometimes quite an adventure. Of course, you can take the elevator, but we are active people and always choose the stairs. And the hotel is horribly noisy. Even though we had a quiet corner in the building, we were woken up every night by children screaming (from different rooms) and chairs being moved around. Peace and quiet are definitely not on the agenda. So, for a family with children, this hotel is certainly fantastic. When my kids scream, the surrounding families don't seem to mind! But for couples without children (we have four grown children, so we remember all this from our own childhood), it's quite disruptive. Pool: Great pools, really! All in an African style. Lots of palm trees. The Unique area by the pool with free water, fruit, and better loungers is truly wonderful. As a Unique guest, there's also a small lounge on the 6th floor where complimentary drinks and snacks are available. We took advantage of it. Thank you. And what about the rest of the hotel complex? Here an elephant, there a zebra (almost life-size figures) that make children's eyes light up. The children's entertainment is also top-notch. The evening entertainment? A complete flop. There's not much on. The bar at reception is rather unpleasant. The bar by the pools is nice, but it can't get chilly and windy in the evenings, otherwise a jacket and sweater won't be enough. (Early March) A real draft. Regarding food: We booked with breakfast included. The Unique breakfast area is right by the pool. Very nice. Everything in a peaceful atmosphere. Bright, as it's outdoors, and there's a small buffet. Otherwise, it's à la carte, and the selection is limited. The scrambled eggs we ordered were almost always cold. I think they're made in the breakfast area for the other hotel guests and get cold by the time they reach us. Now we're using the breakfast restaurants for the other non-Unique guests. We wanted to try it once. Awful. Mass catering. Dark, loud, hectic. The breakfast selection there is much larger, but you have to sacrifice peace and quiet. We only tried it once. Never again. The staff themselves are very friendly. Always trying their best and being courteous, but complaints aren't really passed on, and special requests (even though offered) aren't fulfilled. A broken electrical outlet (broken out) that we found wasn't replaced. I also requested mint tea bags in the room (they were promised, but nothing came), as I can't tolerate coffee or other types of tea. We ended up taking some from the breakfast buffet ourselves. Furthermore, there were "order forms" in the suite for special shampoo and conditioner requests. I filled out the form. They ignored it. I filled it out again. They stole it, and nothing was brought. In short: Definitely recommended for families on a budget. Not so much for couples without children. Absolutely not for guests in the high-end price range. We looked around at other Lopesan hotels in the area and think one or two are definitely better suited for couples and/or more deserving of their 5 stars ⭐️.

The atmosphere is incredible — it truly feels like being in Africa or Hawaii. The decoration and lush vegetation are stunning, with beautiful gardens, heated pools, birds and even turtles that make the whole experience unique. What made our stay exceptional was the staff. I arrived without a reservation and David warmly welcomed us and reassured us we would have a quiet room, as I was travelling with an autistic adult who is sensitive to noise. Lorena, the head of reception, was equally professional and kind. Thanks to them, we felt completely at ease. We enjoyed it so much that we extended our stay. A fantastic hotel for families or couples, with delicious food and a wonderful team. Highly recommended!
