Macdonald Plas Talgarth Resort

Stayed here last minute for 2nights with my family just after christmas. The location is beautiful, my daughter loved watching the birds every day, specially feeding them and was amazed to see a rabbit outside our apartment each morning. Its 10 minutes from a town with everything you need including a nice fish and chip shop. The apartment itself was on 4 levels and on a quick glance looked nice but on closer inspection it was disgusting. The Kitchen was covered in dried dirty food, the walls were cracked and covered in cob webs, the master bedroom had food and rubbish still on one side of the floor next to the bed, the bunk beds had cob webs all over them but the worse part is the patio doors on the ground floor in the kitchen had a lock that was broken which I didnt realise until the 2nd day, talk about vulnerability and not being secure anyone could have come in! 3 sharp knives where just left by themselves in a draw in the kitchen, in reach of my 3yr. Very shocked at this to not be at a higher level out of reach or in something secure than just an empty draw! The indoor pool and jacuzzi was not at an adequate temperature, we went late afternoon hoping the water would be lovely and warm by then, the water was freezing so we didnt stay long as my child was shivering. I was disappointed that we wasnt informed about the temperature beforehand when I spoke to the person at reception before going to the pool with my 3yr, knowing the weather outside is bitterly cold and is due to snow the following day!

Oh well what can I say... This place offers luxury apartments (as advertised of board outside) as you arrive. Now let me say if luxury is moth investations and mold then your in luck.. 80% of these apartments/homes are minging... Damp issues throughout, dirty walls, cutlery. The toilets in most are stained (more than normal). Carpets gave been eaten away by moths, curtains aren't much better, The electrics haven't been checked in many apartments for nearly 3 years according to the PAT testing labels/stickers on the plugs.. Fire doors aren't fire doors, they wouldn't keep out a fart, never lone smoke from a fire. Wrong hinges and screws, fire safety strips paints over/missing, doors with gaps in them, no way would they pass proper inspection.. The leisure side of this place, you wouldn't want your kids in the indoor pool, missing tiles, which people have cut feet in this year. All put in the the accident book , but still not repaired, Half the amenities are no longer open, squash courts don't exist due to rotten flooring, health rooms closed down, sauna room doesn't work , needs £10,000 spending on it, not going to happen.. Restaurant opens when they feel like it. But lease is changing hands soon so may operate differently. The manager of the site has one thing on his mind, and it's not the site, it's drink/alcohol. Often goes out in the works company Mitsubishi L200 reg (FV19 LZF) from the hours of 17:00-20:00 most nights along with head of maintenance. Now this vehicle isn't insured for personal use, just company use. Which I'm guessing isn't going to the pub/pubs to get hammered. Pubs In question are based in Macynleth, they are the white lion (parks around the rear) and the skinners arms (parks opposite). So if you see this vehicle, stay clear as won't be insured if it hits you, and more than likely will be driven by somebody over the limit. It's a strange one because head of house keeping have had two relatives die because of drink driving /drivers, yet fail the need to report this issue. So people if mac be careful around town. As for the resort it's self , the MacDonald group never wanted it, but had to buy as came as a package deal, no intentions of putting any money into the resort it self. I feel sorry for the owners of some properties (time share) as spent good money over the years , and it's all going to ruin, because maintenance isn't getting carried out, and when it is it's substandard. Personally this place is on a par with the old pontins sites, which you could get for £29.00 for 3 day breaks. So save your money and get somewhere half decent. Don't be fooled by pictures online, as beleave me they are far from a true reflection.
