The staff were very welcoming and made sure everything went smoothly during our stay, readily offering help and advice about the surrounding area. The hotel and room were very clean and beautifully decorated. The breakfast was excellent and offered a good variety. The location is ideal for visiting La Rochelle and exploring most of the city on foot. An excellent experience from beginning to end.

I stayed three nights, from Saturday to Tuesday morning, at Maison des Ambassadeurs, an establishment advertised as a five-star hotel in La Rochelle. Unfortunately, the experience did not live up to this rating. The first negative point was upon arrival: a parking space was advertised as included, but it was ultimately unavailable. For an establishment of this standing, this kind of haphazard organization is difficult to understand. As for the rooms, they clearly lack modernity and do not meet current five-star standards. The decor and amenities are outdated, especially the television, which seems to date from the 2000s, with a rigid and poorly designed interface. It is far from the connected and intuitive devices one has the right to expect in this category of hotel. The bedding was a real low point of the stay. The mattress was extremely soft, sagging, with very pronounced dips, causing back pain after each night. In a five-star hotel, the quality of the bedding is a fundamental criterion: impeccable comfort, appropriate support, and regular replacement of the mattress are basic requirements. Another point of contention: the heating was stuck at 19°C, with no real possibility of adjustment. In an establishment of this caliber, personalized thermal comfort is among the expected standards. The soundproofing was also very inadequate. We could clearly hear outside noises and those from other rooms. Sound insulation is an essential criterion for awarding and maintaining a five-star rating, just like the quality of services, the level of amenities, personalized service, staff availability, and overall comfort. Considering the prices charged and the standards that a five-star hotel should guarantee—excellent service, high-end comfort, modern amenities, quality soundproofing, and an impeccable customer experience—the service offered seemed generally mediocre. I therefore left this stay very disappointed. In my opinion, the establishment does not meet the expected requirements of a five-star hotel, especially in comparison with other establishments in the same category.
