Mantra on the Inlet Port Douglas

Went to the front office to check in to find that we needed to communicate with someone through a phone to gain access to our room key. Upon arriving in our room after having to recognize that there are no elevators for people just a lift at one end of the building for your luggage it was quite cumbersome at best. We went to our room and upon taking all of our luggage to our room down several sets of stairs and starting to unload in a room that was really nice, we found out that the front door did not lock. There was no one able to assist us other than the service manager who tried to correct the problem but was unsuccessful So we were committed to either staying in a room without a lock or change to an inadequate room for what we paid for. The room that we were transferred to well let's say we had to remove ourself because the person that told us that they would be moving us in essence didn't do anything other than bring us a safe key after we had moved ourselves because we were on a timeline So the service has been poor the accommodations in the units are nice the location is great but unfortunately the management team does not seem to have the wherewithal to do what needs to be done and to be honest to rent a place without checking if the door locks for the safety of their guests in our opinion would be the first and foremost thing to assure our guests.

Have zero expectations for this hotel and you’ll be fine. Service is self-service so non-existent except for a phone call. Check-in and check-out are all self-service. No one mans the receptionist desk at all during the day. There are no food service. No breakfast. No kitchen area. But you can’t beat the location, and surprisingly the quietness of the rooms (*after 10:00 pm) even though we are located right next to bars and lounges with live entertainment. And the rooms are clean and very serviceable. So if you are someone you prefer good value, great location , don’t care much for service or food service, go for Mantra on the islet. There’s lots of fantastic food and coffee around the area. My recommendation is go to Cafe Ziva for greet coffee and service. They open early at 7:00am. For lunch or dinner, lots and lots of options around the hotel since you’re In the middle of Port Douglas downtown. And even better, there is a Coles right next door that closes at 9pm for any things you need to buy like fruits, yoghurt, sun tan lotions. Quicksilver Great Barrier reef cruises also starts at the Marina that is a 7 minutes walk down along the sea wall. So book Mantra with no expectations and you’ll be fine.
