My 1-bed corner suite with a city view provided me with everything I needed for my stay. The kitchen comes with a microwave, a full set of cutlery, and a refrigerator with an actual freezer. The staff were polite with a very quick checkin. There’s an Avis very close to the hotel so I was able to avoid overnight parking. It’s also very close to balboa park. While there were some people around, coming from Seattle it was nothing out of the ordinary.

Not a hotel for business travelers or Bonvoy elites. When Marriott Vacation Club, San Diego wanted $8 to upgrade me from the same room to a city view at check-in this evening, I dodged a bullet by walking away. It's all there... clearly stated in the T&C: "The following benefits are not available at MVC Club or VSE Resort properties: Enhanced Room Upgrades, late checkout, Nightly Upgrade Awards, Guaranteed Lounge Access, Guaranteed Room Type, 48-Hour Guaranteed Availability, Ultimate Reservation Guarantee, or Your24." Today, I also learned: MVC <> business traveler or Bonvoy elites. ...I appreciate a business model that is willing to forgo $185 in revenue for $8 of pseudo-value for a top-tier elite. I do respect their choice. All good, I walked to the Westin.

The rooms were enormous and comfy. Clean and organized. The lobby was full of amenities and lounging chairs,sofas and tables. The young lady checking us in was extremely friendly and accommodating despite having arrived at almost 11pm after a quick trip to Disney. I had a meeting at Mercedes across the street so I was asked to fill out a form to choose what I wanted for breakfast. 1 food choice and 1 beverage choice. Along with other pertinent information. Only so that the following morning, the taller blond lady, could tell me I wasn't on the list. Two things. She shrugged her shoulders and said "I don't know how it works, I just know you're not in the list." The OTHER thing is that I was given instructions to be there before 6:30am. Meaning I had to get up about 5:50am to shower and change. My meeting at Mercedes was not until 9am. I could've slept in till at least 7:30-8am since the Facility is right across the street. Not cool!
