Meadowbrook Inn

This is an excellent independent inn. We stay there every time we visit the Boone area (usually once a year). Everything about it is 5 stars.

We booked a king suite with private pool. Sounds amazing, right? The front desk staff were friendly and assisted to the best of their ability, but beyond that it was a complete disappointment. The price we paid rivaled 5 star accommodations. The reality was motel 6 with a private pool. It was probably amazing in the 1980's, but severely dated and needs maintenance and TLC. The room was not clean to a standard I'm used to, with remnants of past guests left on the floor and about the room. The bed linens were itchy, and room service didn't hit the mark either. Let's just say they phoned it in and skipped meaningful items anyone would expect from a high priced stay. When addressed with front office staff they were apologetic, but it was obvious they had no influence over the situation and indicated signs of management and/or ownership complacency. We're not "Karen's" of the world and give grace where it's due. This review is based on the reality of the situation. The private pool lacked a level of cleanliness that should be expected. The water was cloudy and lacked the chemicals that are expected in a public pool. Yes, I understand it's a private pool. But, it's only private while the space is housing the current guests. I'm sure it's a revolving door for couples as the days, weeks, and month pass by. I'll leave my concerns about this to the individual reader, but.... We were excited about a special trip over valentine's day weekend and left feeling cheated and grossed out by our stay. Our couples friends booked the other suite and had a nearly exact experience. We all made the best of it, but none of us expected a low budget experience coupled with an exclusive resort style price. Meadowbrook, you need to do better. Update and remodel or at the least, refresh your accommodations. Clean rooms like your customer statement suggests, and honor the legacy I'm sure your brand intends. If this is and will be your best effort at guest services and a premium location to stay, you are doomed for failure.

I have no idea why there are so many bad reviews. Maybe it was wrong place wrong time for those people, but we had a great experience! I was hesitant to book at first because of the mixed reviews but from the moment we arrived I relaxed greatly. Our check-in experience was delightful and very welcoming. They explained everything clearly and answered any of our questions. Our room was in the main building. It was clearly recently renovated with updated furniture, plugs, and lighting. Everything felt and looked clean. I was never once worried about cleanliness. The hotel common areas are a mixture of antique and modern, but it has a mountain charm. There are ice machines and vending machines available. The gym is small and overlooks the pool area. Great view but it makes for a humid room. The equipment is dated but still provides options for a good full body workout. Cardio machines works great as well and there are TVs present. I just wish they had free weights! The pool area is nice and we only swam in it for a short time but it wasn't freezing cold as all the reviews say. It was manageable. They have a conference/ball room in the basement adjacent to the Breakfast Lounge, and it has a lovely gigantic fire place! The outdoor area had a cute walking path that led to an adorable gazebo. This hotel provides that cozy, Inn charm you're looking for from Hallmark movies! The reviews about breakfast were so bad I expected only cereal and bagels, but they had sausage, eggs, pancakes, biscuits & gravy, grits, bagels/breads, cereal, yogurt, milk, juices, and coffee/tea available each day we stayed. And it was good! The lounge has a great view of their outdoor walking path and it was so pretty covered in snow in the mornings. Coffee and tea were available at all times in the lobby. The walk to downtown is less than a block away, super quick and easy! I highly recommend staying at Meadowbrook Inn to anyone, and I had such a great experience I will definitely come back. People can't expect 5 star experience at a 3 star mountain hotel, but I had a better time here than most Hiltons I've stayed in. And we spent almost all our time in Blowing Rock inside the hotel due to an ice storm. We happened to be visiting over the weekend of Blowing Rock Winterfest, a big ice storm came and everything was cancelled. A lot of stores and restaurants closed so we spent most of our time at the hotel. Thankfully the hotel provided breakfast as part of our booking rate so we weren't as worried about access to food! We had a warm room, a tv with streaming options, coffee, snacks, a pool, a gym, we had plenty of activities to keep us entertained!
