Millers Cottage Motel

We booked 2 rooms with low expectations, and even those were too high. We returned the keys and just drove out just 35 minutes after we checked-in. The rooms smelt mouldy and of cigarette smoke. The linen was yellowed and marked. I don’t want to make the review all negative tho, the previous guest’s hair still on the pillowcase, was a lovely homely touch. The carpet is mouldy and visibly dirty and that’s not easily achieved with dark grey carpet. Walking with bare feet inside the rooms wouldn’t be recommended. I’d say you could just wash your feet but the shower base was broken with a piece of sheet metal poorly screwed over to cover it. No expense was spared in the repair job tho with a vintage $5 suction cupped, anti slip mat, that I think used to be white, lovingly installed. Neither the sheet metal nor the base had been cleaned to retain the important ‘vintage bettina’ . A number of sharp broken tiles in the bathrooms were artistically positioned to highlight the loose water mixer tap that falls out of the basin when turning it off. The aircon and the filters are in ‘original condition’ with neither being cleaned by the smell and look of them. The aircon is classically positioned over the loose fitting door so that may be how it has retained its original condition. Pool was green, matching the grass surrounds used to store rubbish and broken furniture. Car parking was a dream if you book a room on the backside. With tight spaces and access you could barely swing into. If you were lucky like us, parking was hard up against a fence on the left with cordoned off grass area behind you. Getting out was like reliving an Austin Powers movie. Don’t let my review stop you staying tho. I don’t consider it waste of a couple of hundred dollars as I’ll get years of fun telling everyone about the experience.

A very basic room - very small bathroom, and kitchen/wardrobe, and one night is enough. If I had to look for accommodation in Wangaratta again, I would not choose this motel.

I’m a solo mature woman and there is no issues with this motel. I was worried about its location near retail, a major road and from previous reviews but the rooms have everything you need. Some rooms are off road behind motel and being that they’re country roads it’s not noisy at all. Perfectly suitable for a night or two. Bed was fresh and clean. Attention to detail missing in cleaning and presentation but you get what you pay for. I felt safe.
