Perfect location if you want a break in town. View of the sea from the pool terrace. Rooms facing square, with balcony, are great. Plenty of food available at breakfast and the tapas bar at front of hotel is one of the best in town.

We stayed at the Hotel Monopol for ten days in January 2026. We chose it because of the historic building and its outstanding location right in the city center. Apart from the annoying street musicians who played the same songs in the same order at the same time every day, and whose music was clearly audible even through the thin windows, the location was truly perfect – not least because of the wide selection of restaurants! The room "with park view" (facing the pedestrian zone, the church opposite, and with a view of Mount Teide, and equipped with a balcony) was adequately sized with a well-ventilated bathroom with a bathtub, a large built-in wardrobe, and a desk. The beds, however, couldn't live up to the hype: The double bed turned out to be rather saggy twin beds on wheels, which we first had to tie together with luggage straps. After that, the bed could only be moved around the room as one piece. ;-) The built-in safe had to be paid for separately (!) – but the housekeeping was quite good. Even the cockroach we spotted was promptly expelled with sufficient insecticide. ... Unfortunately, the service at the hotel didn't quite live up to expectations: We encountered relatively friendly staff at reception. However, the service at breakfast was problematic. The buffet's supplies (food and dishes) were replenished only reluctantly, and dishes were cleared only after we had left the table, and even then, only after a considerable delay. We didn't experience a single smile or greeting from the staff. The hotel includes the Don Carlos Bar. Here, the staff really outdid themselves: According to the hotel's house rules, quiet hours are from 10 pm to 7 am. However, this didn't stop the bartenders from dragging stacks of metal tables and chairs across the floor well after 11 pm, creating an extreme scraping noise. Sleep was impossible. The bar staff's understanding of our complaint the following day was also very limited. No "sorry" whatsoever. In conclusion: A hotel that is quite dated but has charm, which unfortunately cannot be said for a significant portion of the staff.
