Mottram Hall

A breathtaking venue with timeless charm. I recently captured wedding content at Mottram Hall, and the light, architecture and surrounding grounds made every moment feel cinematic. The Bridal Suite option is also stunning and perfect for getting ready in with your Bridal Party! The staff were calm, welcoming and wonderfully organised — a dream to work alongside :)

Booked as a spa and stay, the hotel was very impressive when approaching but the privative drive up to the hotel was full of potholes. After booking in we headed off to the spa, almost every locker in the male changing rooms was broken and my wife said there changing room was the same and the showers were out of order. We could not get a seat around the pool area, although there was a lot of recliner beds everyone had towels on some were on for at least 1 hour before someone from the spa folded them up but did not remove them as we were told they would. After our treatment we headed to our room, we paid for an upgraded room, we were very disappointed, the room was small and outdated. The dressing table was peeling, one of the bed side lamps didn't work, the bathroom door had filler in some holes but not finished off, paint was also coming off, the dispenser above the sink was hanging off, the shower screen had not been cleaned. The evening meal was very nice but the service was slow, we also had a 10% service charge add to the bill which could not be removed which I don't mind paying for a good service but didn'tget it. Breakfast the next day was a joke, we were asked what time we wanted Breakfast, we chose 9am. The food was buffet style, after looking around only scrambled egg was available, I asked if we could have fried eggs and were asked how we wanted them and they would be with us in a few minutes. The buffet breakfast was lukewarm and we had to eat it before it got cold after eating this we were still waiting for the eggs to arrive which turned up 25 minutes after ordering them. On checking out we were asked if we enjoyed out stay, we told them of our experience and my wife also said she had been in contact with the hotel without my knowledge to say this trip was a birthday surprise for me and the hotel didn't even an acknowledgement. The check out staff said they would pass all this on and we would receive an email with a response, we are still waiting for this response.

While the restaurants and bars are lovely we were surprised at how run down the rooms were. The wallpaper was peeling, the furniture was marked and dirty, the windows were old and let in the cold air, and one of the lights in our bathroom didn’t work. At one point, the dated and poorly hung curtain came off the pole. The landing leading up to our room also contained stained, old furniture, marked walls and peeling paint. The old windows also let noise in, so even when closed we were kept awake by loud party goers on the ground floor. I was incredibly disappointed by the poor state of the rooms which don’t reflect the 4 star status of the hotel.
