Odd experience at check in. Booked the holiday for 1 week via BA holidays months ago, on arrival at the Royal Myconian hotel we were informed there was an Indian wedding booked for the hotel and “for our comfort” they would like to move us to their sister hotel ( the Avaton), we asked to see the room we booked and what room was being offered as an alternative, from what we saw our booked room was nice and met the scope of the booking, they took us to the Avaton, firstly we were offered a like for like room, then after a quick discussion they offered us a slight upgrade (from a room with a jacuzzi on the balcony to one slightly bigger room that had a small private pool on the balcony), we accepted the new room. Overall, the hotel was nice, staff were very good, views were excellent, and they served a solid breakfast buffet each day. Opportunities for improvement:- the team should have offered the “best room available” first and not a like for like room in a hotel we didn’t pick, the mattress or topper on the bed was worn and had dips and ridges – not great for a 5* hotel room, there was no hooks or places to put towels in the bathroom – hand towels were left balanced on the sink tap by housekeeping, the larger towels on a kitchen area outside the bathroom, there were no cups or kettle in the room but we had a kitchen area with a microwave, also the hotel had a habit of swapping out towels, robes and slippers, no sign of a ESG policy though there is one on their web site. Would I go back?, yes, but ideally, I would like to go to the hotel I booked as it was closer to the beach and i'm really interested to compare the 2 “sister hotels” now I've stayed in the Avaton
