Myojin no Yu Dormy Inn Premium Kanda

We love staying at the Dormy Inn when we are in Japan. Especially near the end of our trip as it offers several amenities that make starting your day and winding down much more relaxing. The staff at this location were very friendly and helpful. This included the front desk, dining and kitchen staff. It was great as we thought the staff at our last stay in the Kodenmacho location last year were quite indifferent. This location in Kanda is in an awesome location if you like Akihabara. It is just 2 blocks away from there so you have access to a lot of shopping and restaurant options. If you just want to pop into Akihabara for 30 60 minutes before the family is ready to get together it is no problem. The hotel is also between a good sized 7-11 and a subway entrance. This location had the biggest 2 bed rooms for a Dormy we have stayed in so far. Good sized beds and a good amount of extra space. The minor downside is that the front door opens into the bathroom area (shower and toilet still have a private door) so if you have a lot of people going in and out it can be a little inconvenient. The breakfast area could be slightly bigger but we never had to wait for a spot. The breakfadt was decent and was mostly a japanese breakfast with some freshly made options like soba and tempura. It had rice, curry, fish, fried chicked and potatoes, several other small plates, yogurt, fruit, salad, small desserts and juice. Oddly there was no cereal. The drink station had tea, water and coffee. The kodenmacho Dormy we stayed in last year had some soft drinks but this one did not. Late night free noodles were really good and everyone loved them. If you havent been to Dormy, they are not full sized meal portions and there are no meat but the soy sauce based broth is tasty and the noodles are bouncy. This one gave you a quarter of a boiled egg (not a ramen egg) which is the first one I have seen do that. The most notably Dormy Inn feature is the in hotel onsen. There are separate men's and women's onsens. The men's in this location was a little on the smaller side and did get busier than the previous ones I have been to but it was still a great way to end the day. There is a mini freezer with Popsicles and ice cream for after your onsen visit. We appreciated that it was well stocked as in other locations it would occasionally run out of some choices. This location did not have massage chairs which was a nice feature of the Kodenmacho one. There are free laundry machines in each of the onsen dressing rooms. You have to pay for drying though. This is a longer review than I normally write but since we have stayed and enjoyed the Dormy many times now I thought it was overdue to give them their props!

The location is good, close to several train stations and Akihabara. The twin room is sufficiently big, especially for a Japanese hotel room. My family was comfortable. However, during our stay around Christmas, on our fifth floor they were changing the wall paper in the hall way and because of the glue or whatever they were using to affix the wall paper, the entire hallway smelled very bad for several hours. And the sickening smell even filled up our hotel room so that was very unpleasant. I would recommend getting breakfast at least once to try it out but no more than once as they don’t change the menu. I stayed here over the summer as well as the winter and the menu barely changed. As for the service, it was generally good but I recommend training the staff that do interact in English in proper service etiquette; when the guest says thank you very much, the proper response is you’re welcome or thank you very much, not uh-huh, which is what the employee said to me when I thanked him. Respectful language does exist in English, you know? Lastly, even though the smoking rooms and the non-smoking rooms are on different floors, I did smell cigarette smoke in the elevator from time to time, which is unfortunate. The night time soba is delicious, try it if you can stay up til 9:30pm.

There was a person with tattoos in the bath, but I don't think there's any way to prevent this.
