Fantastic experience in a beautiful ryokan from the Edo period. The houses and rooms are truly authentic and centuries old. Perfect location for trips to Magome and Naegi castle nearby. The staff is extremely helpful and can organize bus transfers to both locations. The traditional ryokan style dinner was superb. 100% recommended if you want to spend some time away from the busy city.

I'm including the date here in case it's helpful for anyone planning to visit during the peak autumn foliage season. We stayed on November 20, 2025, and it was truly spectacular. The maple leaves were at their peak, the traditional Japanese architecture was stunning, and the staff were truly lovely. It's the perfect place to reconnect after the hustle and bustle of Tokyo. The staff were truly wonderful, picking us up at Nakatsugawa Station and taking us to Magome the next day to begin our Nakasendo walk. For dinner, we had a kaiseki meal in our room, which was perfectly prepared and incredibly delicious, using seasonal ingredients. Chef Masa's "chestnut and fish dish" was amazing in every way: combination, presentation, and taste. Breakfast was a bit difficult for us Italians (lol), but we managed to eat it all anyway. :D I'll never forget sleeping on a futon, putting on a yukata, and the woman who kindly taught me how to wear it. Above all, strolling through the beautiful garden and being surrounded by the bright red maple leaves was truly special (no filters on these photos, seriously!). It's a place I'd definitely like to return to. It was a little pricey, but well worth the price. I will also remember fondly how everyone came out to see me off on the morning of my departure. I am truly grateful.
