New York LaGuardia Airport Marriott

The staff were great. They were friendly, helpful and went out of their way to make my stay more enjoyable, even going out of their way to save me money. The rooms may be a little old, but they were comfortable and the location is extremely convenient, if you need to be close to the airport. Recommended for your first or last night in New York.

There's a constant roar from the highway, and ambulances constantly drive by, waking you up with their howls. The heater doesn't work and just blows cold air. They charged me $250 for supposedly a DKPozit, which they never returned. Parking is expensive, $40 a day. Breakfasts are paid. Absolutely everyone here is trying to make money off you.

It’s taken me a couple of days to sit down and write this review, as I wanted to leave my feelings aside and provide facts. Before I say anything else, I want to start by saying that the hotel was great. Our check-in was a smooth and easy process. The room was clean, and we were pleased with all the accommodations. The staff at the front desk could not have been more welcoming, helpful or pleasant. They were fantastic! After checking in on our first night, we decided to have a drink at the hotel bar. The gentleman that took our order was pleasant and got us our drinks. We spoke about why we were in town and then we shifted the conversation to food and our plan for dinner. Let me preface this by saying we are not from New York. We are from South Carolina and were in town for a college football bowl game. We talked about some of the options we had discussed for food and the bartender really wanted us to order from the hotel—which I completely respect. We mentioned an Ale house in Astoria we were considering. To which, he laughed, stating that he was only familiar with high-end restaurants and could only recommend those. We explained that was not what we were looking for that night. His response: “Well, you probably should go to the ale house then.” His tone & demeanor at this point was rude and demeaning. He never said it, and didn’t have to, but he spoke to us like we were ignorant and beneath him. We let it go. We got the bill, tipped generously and left for dinner. The following evening, after attending the football game and enjoying New York, we stopped into the hotel bar for a drink before calling it a night. The same bartender from the previous night was working again. He remembered our order from the night before and brought us our drinks. We were off to a great start! Unfortunately, we quickly recognized the attitude he had the night before— making us feel as though we had no place being there. I travel frequently (biweekly) so I know when to let things go. What happened next is really why I’m leaving this review. I asked for a shot of Fireball (I know—I don’t exactly have a refined palate, but I like it). Noticing the bottle was sitting on the shelf, I requested the shot be chilled. Attached is a picture of what he served me— a half watered-down shot. Considering his overall attitude and apparent opinions about us, I can only assume he didn’t think I would be intelligent enough to notice. When I pointed it out, he once again spoke to me as if I were beneath him, smugly saying, “you wanted it chilled.” I agreed but reiterated that chilled is not the same as a shot being watered down. He was adamant that I received what I asked for. Again, this wasn’t an argument worth having, so I stopped talking and let it go. I did not drink the shot, and we asked for the bill. Though I said I would pay for it, he did kindly take the shot off the bill, but rudely proceeded to tell me he would come pour it straight out of the bottle into my glass if I like. At this point, we opted to leave. As I mentioned, I travel often all across the country. The substantial amount of money I give to Bonvoy chains has provided me with preferred status. Across the country and among the hundred of hotel nights I have stayed, I have NEVER been spoken to or looked down upon like I did here. This gentleman was rude and generally just awful. This was unacceptable behavior from someone working in customer service. I hate to think about how he treats customers on a regular basis with his clear intolerance for those unlike him. Considering New York has visitors from around the world, this would be extremely concerning if I were running a business that is literally defined by customer service. As I said, I stay at your hotels frequently and I’ve never experienced anything like this, so I felt compelled to share our unfortunate experience. I hope this will be used as a learning experience and addressed with him so other guests don’t have the same experience as us.
