We spent two nights at Ngo Khanh. The room was clean, comfortable, and the air conditioning worked wonderfully. The host was especially great. His BBQ is highly recommended, and he went to great lengths to ensure there was something for everyone. Everyone was very friendly and incredibly helpful. We loved the location of the homestay, even though it's a short scooter ride from the harbor. Unfortunately, I left something in the room when we left, which our host very generously arranged for us to take to Hoi An on the regular speedboat. We were truly impressed by his hospitality and warmly recommend him to anyone looking for a comfortable place to stay on Cham Island.

I'll start by saying that the restaurant serves excellent food at fairly reasonable prices, but it's definitely worth it, especially if you get the combo. I'll explain the reason for the one-star rating: I booked through Expedia about two months in advance, the reservation was confirmed, and everything went smoothly. We arrived on the island via speedboat; to get to the accommodation, you absolutely need a scooter, which I thought was at least included in the room, but instead, it's an extra cost. We arrived at the accommodation, but the owner couldn't find our reservation; he'd obviously lost it. He told us that the room would be ready later (4 hours later) and that if we wanted, we could stay somewhere else with a room ready right away. We accepted (also because the alternative was to wait 4 hours without doing anything) and were given a room in a sort of "barracks" run by the military. We had the feeling that the owner cared very little about us; we almost felt "abandoned" to ourselves. No welcome kit, no towels (we had to ask for them), no toilet paper (we had to ask for them), no advice. The island is beautiful, but the service was truly poor. I would consider other HomeStays.

We made the reservation through Booking.com and tried to contact the manager the day before our arrival, but there was no response. Upon arriving at the island's port, we met a "motordriver" carrying a sign with our name to take us to the hotel. We agreed to use the morning and return to the hotel in the afternoon. When we arrived at the hotel, the manager said he had no record of our reservation, which was impossible because the driver had our name. He told us he didn't have a room but that we could stay in his sister's house. We had to ask him to lower the price (already paid via Booking.com!) because the room was not at all what we had reserved and paid for. The manager of Homestay Ngo Khanh was extremely unpleasant at all times, very disrespectful to us, considering the situation and his miscalculation. We were not treated well at any point, a disgrace. The room where we stayed for the two nights we booked was at Homestay Baihoung Hoan Hy, a place run by a lovely elderly couple who helped us at every turn and were pure love. If you want a truly authentic experience, go to their place; they're wonderful. If they were truly family, there's nothing to compare with the other guy.
