We were scheduled to stay at this establishment this past weekend. While en route to the hotel from London my travel partner’s father had a stroke back home in the U.S. We immediately returned to London so that my travel partner could return to the U.S. to be with her father. We communicated with the front desk via phone and email. We followed up with the front desk to ensure that they had received the communication via email and they stated they had not. We explained the situation in further details so that they could understand why we would not be able to make our reservation. We asked if we needed to follow up with an additional email to which they replied that it would not be necessary and they would follow up with the manager on Monday when they would next be in. We called again on Monday to make sure that they had received the communication and make sure that we would not be charged for a room that we didn’t use. They stated again that they had not received the email even though we had a digital chain of custody of the original communication. Instead of showing compassion for a situation that was harrowing, stressful, and frightening they stated that they had to abide by their ‘terms and conditions’ showing very little compassion for the situation. They still charged us for a room that not only we communicated about not being able to make, but we also provided a more than adequate reason which was out of the ordinary circumstances. The only ‘condition’ that this facility didn’t take into consideration was the human condition where events happen in our lives that are dire and life altering. When we called to follow up after things had settled down, they showed zero compassion and zero desire to come to an amicable solution and still charged for the room. They did offer us a complementary upgrade that will never be used because we will never patronize this facility, so the gesture felt more like an insult. We will make sure that any of our friends of that travel to this area never patronize this establishment. Social media can be a powerful tool as well, and will we leverage that platform. The lack of understanding and continuous stating of ‘terms and conditions’ shows that this establishment cares more about making money versus offering grace in a situation beyond one’s control. FOLLOW UP: Called back and spoke with Mate, who can be crowned the King of Gaslighting. He insinuated we lied and, when called on it, stated that we were taking it wrong. Save the money, save the headache, and stay elsewhere. This place is a nightmare.
