We've had somewhat of a story with the Old Bank Hotel. We had to urgently move out of another accommodation just 2 days before NYE: so it's a super high season and we need to find a new place to stay for what are probably the few most busy nights of the year. We came "from the street" to check the Old Bank hotel, and the staff has been professional and welcoming from our first step. They showed us the few rooms available, get the rooms ready very quickly and we've agreed to stay for 2 nights with potential extension to 4 nights (which we eventually went for as we really liked the place). Hotel staff did their best to take care of everything, from parking our car to any other requests. We noticed that people working there have both professionally nice attitude towards guests and friendly relations between themselves, which for me is always a great indicator within hospitality business. Overall Old Bank hotel is a classic city hotel similar to the ones you can find all across Europe. Old bank building (so thick walls, high ceilings), "modern classic" design, the rooms on a few lower floors were very freshly renovated, and the "older" rooms were actually very nice as well. What I specifically appreciated was immaculate cleaness of the rooms. My room was on the 2nd floor, with a view on the pedestrian street which turns into open market during daytime. It wasn't disturbing or noisy at all, and I even kept the window open at times as I could hear the life of the city (without hearing any big roads) and I liked it. The Cape Town downtown is a bit of a specific area, which could be described as both very vibrant and "not calm" . I wouldn't recommend staying in downtown to everyone, but if you generally like to embrace the local city life and your comfort zone goes beyond posh and gates touristic places, it might be a good choice (and also generally more budget friendly v Waterfront or Green Point). Some of the best restaurants in town such as Fyn are just around the corner, and the access to key sightseeing areas is very easy. All and all, Old Bank hotel turned out to be a great value for money and we had a truly wonderful time there.

It’s a great hotel - extremely clean. The rooms were spacious and the bathroom was huge. The floors in the room are beautiful. It can be slightly noisy as the windows are a bit thin but it’s not a deal breaker. Would highly recommend.
