Old Stone Inn Boutique Hotel

My husband and I spent NYE at this hotel, it was decorated so nice and the staff was amazing

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights to celebrate our anniversary. It is an absolutely stunning hotel. As locals we make our way around trying new places every year and this one didn’t disappoint. We told them at booking it was our anniversary and what a beautiful surprise to walk into rose pedals on our bed and a beautiful little note. This time of year the hotel was slower which made it feel all the more special for us. The staff is courteous and eager to help any needs you have. The room was a standard historic with a king bed and fireplace, VERY clean. I wish the little balcony doors opened to let in fresh air, but being a local we understand why they don’t. came to the front of the restaurant to order breakfast that was part of our two night package stay and asked if I could take it back to the room given that my wife was not feeling well that morning. The young girl at the front assisting me was nice but appeared not fully trained given that she had to go to the back of the restaurant and confirm which menu I could select from. She came back and gave me a menu to choose from and I selected two items. Within a minute or two Mr John W came to the front in a very cold demeanor, and thrusted the credit card machine saying I have to pay before any preparation of breakfast is made. When I advised him that breakfast was included in our package stay, he said".. oh you were given the wrong menu for that then..". He immediately pulled out another much shorter menu and said select from any of the above four items. This latter communication was also done in a very cold manner with no eye contact and a very terse tone in his voice. He then asked for my room number and then went to the front reception came back immediately and said .." you don't have the breakfast included.." when I attempted to show him an email confirming that I do have breakfast included again he immediately said ".. well that's got nothing to do with me, sort it out at the front desk .. also we do not allow you to take food back to your room.." he immediately turned face and left. His interrogative unfriendly tone of his voice, stiff body language, flat facial demeanor and complete apparent apathy to the situation left me feeling belittled and having the sense he felt I was scamming the hotel for a free breakfast. Needless to say I did clarify within 2 minutes that breakfast was included with my stay with the same reception person that he had spoken to earlier and the breakfast for both my wife and I were delivered to our room( as opposed to what he suggested earlier). I'm not sure if his behavior that day reflected his personality in general , or he was having a particularly bad day himself or he prejudged me based on the color of my skin .In my 40 years of frequent traveling locally and abroad, having encountered hundreds of hospitality staff, I do not recollect any interaction that comes anywhere close to this as possible. On a positive note your hotel is simply charming and beautiful decorated superably. The rest of the staff that I spoke to and interacted with were all helpful courteous and friendly .It is a shame that this one encounter can completely nullify all the positive experiences
