Oyo Tsukuba Sky Hotel

Perhaps because it's reasonably priced, there were a lot of young people, including high school students. It's quite far from the station. Instead, they offer two hours of free bicycle rentals for short distances. They also offer bicycle rentals for more than two hours for 500 yen. Even without a bicycle, there are shopping centers, convenience stores, and McDonald's within walking distance, so you won't have any problems with shopping or dining. The building itself is old, and the hallways and staircases are dated, but the interior appears to have been renovated and is clean. The unit bathroom in the room only had a shower and no bathtub, but I liked the partition so the toilet didn't get wet. There were outlets both around the desk and near the bed, including one that could fit a USB. The desk might be small if you want to do a lot of different things. The breakfast selection was smaller than at major hotels, but it was still adequate for a free buffet. The welcome drink, evening hot dog service, and manga corner were all great (perhaps they use a rental company to keep the selection from becoming outdated?). I wasn't expecting much from the internet speed in the room, based on the many harsh reviews I'd read, but it was actually more than adequate. At around 8pm on Saturday night, the download speed was 30m and the upload speed was 60m, which was sufficient for normal use.

I was a little worried after reading the negative reviews, but it was better than I expected. Maybe I stayed at a good time, but it was quiet. One good thing about the restaurant on the first floor? There were lots of manga in the corner, and they had free coffee and popcorn to make and eat, so it was a great way to kill time. There seems to be a washer and dryer on the top floor, so it's fine no matter how many days you stay. If I had any complaints, it would be that the air conditioning was a little noisy.

The exterior of the building and the facilities are obviously old, but the rooms are spacious and nicely renovated. However, it's definitely more than a 15-minute walk from Tsukuba Station (you'll need to take a taxi), and the Wi-Fi in the rooms is so weak that it doesn't even work. Even though there's a work desk in the room, I can't get any work done without tethering. I can just about forgive the slight age and inconvenience of the facilities, but not being able to use Wi-Fi is a real problem. There will be no next time.
