I stayed at the Palace Hotel on a business trip and had a very lovely stay overall. The lobby is absolutely stunning, and the rooms are spacious with beautiful bathrooms. Two downsides is that the rooms are quite dark, so better lighting would have been ideal. I also ordered room service a few times and found it to be very pricey. That said, the staff are friendly and I really liked the location. A great option if you’re looking for an elegant stay in the city!

The history and atmosphere of this hotel is great. But some big disappointments: - Booked via American Express (AMEX) Fine Hotels and Resorts program. Should have been able to check in at noon. Was not able to check in until 4 PM, which was the standard time. We were only staying one night as well, so this was a bummer. - Room had odd pipe noises that sounded like animals when water was running in adjacent rooms - Bed was super comfortable - Room service dinner was fast and served hot, but the food was way too salty. My spouse and I had upset stomachs from it. - Breakfast in the garden court was a mixed bag. Great that the buffet was included, but even with a reservation at 8:30 AM, we had to wait to be seated for about 15 minutes. By the time we left, there was a line all the way back to the front lobby. Food on the buffet was not hot, but the quality was good and the server was very nice. Atmosphere with the glass ceiling and Christmas decor was amazing. - The indoor pool was advertised as heated and felt way too cold to swim in. There is only one hot tub and it is super small, four people max. The hot tub was not very hot, more of a warm tub, which encouraged people to stay in it too long and made it difficult to get a turn in it. - Gym is very nice. Clean, good equipment, like that it's open 24/7. - Location is an easy walk to the Embarcadero, Ferry Building, BART, and MUNI for public transportation. - Bell desk was not attentive. When waiting to drop my bag, the man working was very nice and apologized for the wait. When he came back to the lobby from delivering someone else's bags, he did not return to the bell desk immediately and instead wandered around the lobby. I went to talk to him and he said he didn't realize I had not been helped yet (despite the fact that I was the first and only person in line) - Elevators, extremely long wait as only one out of three was functioning.

This historic hotel was a shining beacon on Market Street. This was my first time staying here and it was enchanting. The grandeur was immense, especially in the courtyard. The room was nice and spacious, but the sound from the hall was pretty loud because there was a gap from the bottom of the door to the floor. The amenities were great. The pool was nice and the gym was adequate. There was turndown service and they left Ghirardelli chocolates. This was a great stay and I would recommend visiting this historical hotel.
