Pavilion on Northbourne

Absolutely brilliant

We booked a king-size bed and single bed room for two nights for two adults and one baby. A $100 deposit is required at check-in, which will be returned if there are no problems. The parking lot is outdoors, and there's a lot of bird droppings underneath the trees. It said Wi-Fi was available, but there was no information sheet in the room. I didn't need it, so I didn't ask the front desk. The room was a little dusty, especially on the telephone, and the hair dryer was hidden at the back of the ironing board and I couldn't find it. I went to the front desk to ask if they had an air purifier and hair dryer, but the female receptionist was quite polite but dismissive, telling me it was on a black cloth on a rack. I went back to the room and checked, and found the hair dryer. Unfortunately, it seems they don't have an air purifier. The bathroom shower head was fixed, which made it a bit inconvenient for washing the baby, but it was within the realm of acceptability. When I finally got into bed, the single bed sank unusually deeply, making it unbearable. Also, the king-size bed was made by joining two single beds together, so the middle was lumpy, and like single beds, the individual beds were quite worn and uncomfortable. The middle was typically soft, and I was able to sleep by sleeping with my feet slightly protruding. On the day of check-in, I asked if we could change rooms, but they insisted they were fully booked and that the mattress was new, less than a year old. They didn't offer any further suggestions, so I asked if there was anything else they could do for me. They reluctantly said we could change rooms the next day. However, since it would have meant packing again the next day, leaving my luggage at the front desk, and then returning home, it would have been a hassle, so I decided not to change. When I asked if they had a bassinet, they prepared something like a foldable playpen with a few sheets on it. I'm disappointed that the bed prevented me from fully enjoying my baby's birthday and first trip. When I checked out, they tried to deduct $10 that I hadn't used, but they said they would check with the bar. What I liked was the atmosphere of the breakfast and bar area. The female staff member in the breakfast barista area was particularly cheerful and even helped me with hot water for baby food.

Very clean and comfortable room, nice atmosphere and good service. Bathroom dated.
