Pavillon Winter Luxor

The hotel is beautiful, and it’s amazing that you can use all their amenities but the service at the hotel is bad in reception and bar, rooms feel a bit old still they are good for staying.

This review is for the "new" building, Pavilion. Don't confuse it with the "old" one; the prices are much higher there and everything is probably much better. 1. The rooms are shabby. The furniture is old, broken in places. The TV (for those who care) is outdated. There is no overhead light. There are no outlets by the beds. There is one bedside table and one bedside lamp for two beds (in the middle). 2. The bathroom is moldy, there is no ventilation, and all the odors will linger for a long time. 3. The water pressure is weak, and the shower is positioned so that water will end up on the floor. 4. What's most terrifying for me is that the hotel allows smoking, even though it advertises itself as non-smoking on all its websites! In reality, smoking is only prohibited in the rooms and the lobby, but it is allowed on the balconies and in the hallways. Yes, there are ashtrays near the elevators on each floor, and they are obviously used. One of the rooms we viewed was filled with smoke. 5. The on-site currency exchange ATM swallowed $20, rebooted, and didn't return the money when it returned. We asked reception to call the bank, but they refused, telling us to call ourselves. 6. The mattresses were extremely uncomfortable, and the pillows were long overdue for the throw-out. 7. The hotel constantly blared calls to prayer, day and night. Bring earplugs! 8. You have to beg for water; they only bring small bottles, and you can ask for four and get three. Larger bottles are only available through room service, and you have to pay for them. Pros: 1. Beautiful garden. Not very large, but pleasant, and even in the heat, it provides a cool retreat. 2. The garden features flamingos and peacocks (the latter, unfortunately, are in a cage). 3. Good breakfasts. I don't know why so many reviews say the breakfasts are meager: here you have pancakes, scrambled eggs, and other hot dishes, salads, fruit, pastries... Enough to keep you full for the whole day. Perhaps some people miss the variety, but overall, the breakfasts are good and tasty. 4. For those who care, there's a swimming pool. I didn't use it myself, but people were lounging around it. 5. The Luxor Temple is within walking distance, and Karnak is also within walking distance along the Avenue of the Sphinxes. 6. There are plenty of restaurants on the embankment across the street. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed. The reception and Google Maps list the hotel as 5 stars, while other sources list it as 4, but that's not 5 or 4; it's a 3, and by Egyptian standards, 3 is a 3, not European. And non-smokers, find another hotel; you'll be smoked all over here.
