Aside from the fantastic location and view of the Retiro River, our experience wasn't a positive one. The hotel in general needs maintenance. The room had broken and missing glass in the bay window, which let cold air in. The curtains were torn. The closet was small and missing drawers. The sink was marked and the shower drain was broken. The pillows were extremely uncomfortable and too low. The common areas were dirty, with stained carpets. The staff didn't even say hello when you came or went, and there was no customer service whatsoever. On a positive note, the breakfast was excellent (except for the coffee, which was colored water). The waiter was very kind; I asked for better coffee, and he brought it to me. He also helped me with the service, as I have a broken arm. Because it was a holiday, the price we paid wasn't adequate for the service we received. During other periods, the hotel is much cheaper, so these issues might be acceptable.

We loved our stay at the Petit Palace. We made a mistake during booking, and the lovely staff at the hotel helped us to resolve it immediately. The kids loved the room with the bunk bed, and everything was clean and comfortable. We also loved the location, right across from the park. It is close to many restaurants, shops, and busses to catch to other parts of the city.

Room was somewhat run down, but seemed reasonably clean - until we saw our slippers at the end. The floors must have been very dirty. The hotel tried to push us multiple times to pay extra €60 just to choose our room in advance, making it seem urgent and important to do so. Unacceptable for a hotel at this price. We were offered to pre-book a meal at the hotel restaurant for €20. They forgot to include us, then after much discussion, gave us a seat in the bar instead of restaurant. We were "allowed" to choose one item from the menu each, worth about €15, despite having already paid €20. The chef actually showed us that he wrote our orders correctly, but then brought us a single, completely different dish. It felt like he was maybe trying to offload a dish someone else had returned. Positive: adding +1 star for the receptionists, who were very friendly and helpful (also refunded the €20 lunch without issue), and the location is great.
