Had a great stay at this Marriott. The location is fantastic, offering beautiful views full of atmosphere of the Petra area from above. Several daily shuttles provided to and from the visitors center. Great Arabic food at the restaurant. We extended our stay an extra 2 days after flight delays and were made to feel very at home, really making it a great experience overall.

It is a bit difficult to assess our experience there as it was so mixed but in the end, despite all the shortcomings of the property, we had a nice experience thanks to the amazing and caring staff. This is what we will remember and what indeed matters. Arriving from the very nice Marriott dead sea resort, we were at first extremely disappointed: we felt we were arriving at a construction site. I believe this should be emphasized on the Marriott website: what is going on there is major construction, with real impact on the experience (views from some rooms, obstructed windows at the restaurant, parking outside along side the road...). Definitely not what I expected when I booked a 5 star hotel. There is a small mention on the website but I feel this is not at all representing the extent of the work being done. At first, we got rooms with views on the construction works. They were terrible. I could not imagine staying there for 3 nights and was considering moving out even if it meant losing our deposit. But then the staff proposed to upgrade us to nicer rooms with incredible views on Petra. These rooms were good and totally changed our mood. A first reason for us to be thankful to the Petra Marriott team! Breakfast was with limited choice and windows from the restaurant obstructed. It was more looking like a canteen, definitely not on par with other Marriott properties where we stayed in Jordan. A suggestion would be to at least serve freshly pressed orange juice as in the other 5 star hotels in the region. But again, staff were so nice, with kind attentions for us and our children, that we finally enjoyed the experience and to be honest food was good. We also tried the buffet on the first night and it was a great value for money. So all in all we had an enjoyable experience thanks to the amazing team who are really doing their best to make guests feel good and welcomed. A big thank you to them!!! I hope that management at Marriott Petra realize what they owe to their team whose efforts over compensate for the tired property and the heavy on-going construction works.
