We went on our honeymoon to Sri Lanka and decided to end our trip in the Maldives. We found the island very dirty, as practically 50% of it was under construction, but what really disappointed us about the Plumeria was the service. They sent us a rather brief WhatsApp message, so we went to reception to see what was going on. They told us we had to present our marriage certificate (thankfully, we had access to an electronic version). After sending it, we didn't receive any response, so we had to go back to reception to ask. They looked at it, and within minutes, the staff told us that the hotel manager thought too much time had passed since our wedding, so they weren't going to celebrate our honeymoon (it had been 5 months), and that if we didn't, we would have to pay for it separately. The thing is… who do these people think they are to tell me when I can go on my honeymoon? We went at this time of year to avoid the monsoon season! The worst part is that they advertise everywhere that they offer a special, free dinner (it's a table slightly more decorated than the others, with the couple's names written in the sand) for honeymooning couples (basically, to entice people to come to this hotel for their honeymoon), and we saw other couples celebrating… but for us, nothing! Not a single touch, not a few petals on the bed, not a card in the room, or even a kind word like "congratulations." The thing is, we weren't expecting anything extravagant, but we were hurt by how they treated us, how they wasted our time, how opaque their policies were, and how ungenerous and unfriendly they were. We really felt like cattle; after us, the next tourists will come, and that's it. The Plumeria's motto is "affordable luxury," but it seems they've forgotten their values. In Sri Lanka, we also experienced one of the worst cyclones in recent memory and were trapped for several days… so in the Maldives, we were hoping to finally disconnect… but this rather “uncomfortable” situation spoiled it considerably. If you're going on your HONEYMOON, be careful because something similar could happen to you, and if, for example, you don't have access to your electronic wedding certificate, you should bring it with you (but they don't warn you about this, even though we went with an agency and they notified all the hotels that we were going on our honeymoon). The Plumeria left a bitter taste in our mouths from our trip and from the Maldives, but fortunately, we loved Sri Lanka. The people were charming, kind, and welcoming, and we always felt at home. This is where we truly experienced the “affordable luxury” we were looking for. Sadly, I DO NOT recommend the Plumeria hotel.
